Ross Barkley

Everton star Ross Barkley seems to be out of Ronald Koeman’s plans for this season after rejecting a move to Chelsea last summer on Deadline Day.

The Blues and Tottenham Hotspur are both set to fight over the England international midfielder when the transfer window reopens in January, according to reports in the Daily Mirror.

The midfielder is said to be preferring a move to the Spurs, but Chelsea manager Antonio Conte will reportedly try to persuade the 23-year-old, whose price-tag could be decreased.

Antonio Conte believes the Blues board did everything in their power to bolster Chelsea squad until the end of transfer market window.

The Italian manager also dismissed speculation regarding Ross Barkley as ‘ridiculous’, speaking at a press conference ahead of Leicester City game.

“First of all, I want to tell you that I don’t like to speak about players of other teams because it is a lack of respect – Conte said – But what I read about this issue was ridiculous. Ridiculous. I stop. It’s ridiculous. With this adjective, I tell you my thoughts of this news.”

Ronald Koeman has confirmed Everton midfielder Ross Barkley will receive a warm welcome as ‘he is still an Everton player’.

It is understood the England international star refused a last-minute move to Chelsea on Deadline Day, as he wanted to reconsider his situation at Goodison Park despite a £35m move accepted by the Toffees.

With the arrival of Wayne Rooney and Davy Klaassen, Barkley is not expected to be Koeman’s main choice for the starting XI, anyway the Dutchman claimed:

“His Everton career is not over because he is still an Everton player,”

“To the end of this season he has his contract of course the player, at this time, is injured and it will take another two or two-and-a-half months before he is available”.

“So I don’t need to take that decision now and I can wait and see what will happen. Then we will see what the decision will be at that time.”

Chelsea are expected to be ready to place a further bid for the England international next January.

Chelsea are still chasing Everton star Ross Barkley as they could still consider to sign him in January, but the England international has been selected in the Toffee’s squad for Premier League and Europa League this season.

Ronald Koeman has confirmed he wants Barkley in despite the attacking-midfielder asked to leave the club this summer.

It is understood Chelsea were closing in on a £35m move for the 23-year-old, before the move failed on Deadline Day.

Yesterday we reported you the reason why, according to former Premier League player Joey Barton, Ross Barkley didn’t join Chelsea on transfer window deadline day in the past week: the ex midfielder claimed that Antonio Conte switched his phone off and Barkley couldn’t speak to him before completing the move to Stamford Bridge.

Today The Times reveals that it was Chelsea itself to leave the Italian manager out of negotiation, after he failed to convince Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain a few days before, as the winger eventually joined Liverpool after the Blues already agreed a fee with Arsenal.

This is what one of the main English newspapers writes about that:

“The Times has learnt that Chelsea decided to keep the head coach away from transfer negotiations after his unsuccessful talks with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain the same week, which ended with the Arsenal midfielder opting to join Liverpool.”

This could mean the club has lost his confidence and trust in Conte, who doesn’t feel trust in him despite an improvement of his deal during the summer.

Joey Barton claims he knows the real reason why Everton midfielder Ross Barkley didn’t join Chelsea on transfer window deadline day.

According to the former midfielder the Toffees star wasn’t able to complete a move to Stamford Bridge for Antonio Conte: the Italian manager switched his mobile phone off and Barkley couldn’t get in contact with him, an episode that demotivated him.

“I heard a really interesting thing about what happened with the Ross Barkley transfer. Conte turned his phone off and Barkley’s representatives were trying to contact him,” Barton revealed.

“He wanted to say: ‘Look, where am I going to play’, and Conte turned his phone off. That is why Barkley got cold feet and never signed.

“He thought: ‘Well, if the manager isn’t answering the phone to me he clearly doesn’t want me’, and that is why he went back to Everton.”

Everton star Ross Barkley broke the silence as he posted on Twitter three messages in which avoids rumors regarding a move to Chelsea on Deadline Day.

“Contrary to a number of reports in the press, – he said – I did not undertake a medical with any club at any point”.

I simply decided that due to my injury, it would be best to make a decision on my future and assess all my options in January when fully fit

Thanks for all of the support”.

The Daily Mail believes that Everton midfielder Ross Barkley refused to leave the club for Chelsea as he only wants to work under Mauricio Pochettino in a near future.

Barkley, who travelled to London with Everton’s permission on Deadline Day, reportedly changed his mind after his medical with Chelsea.

Also Everton’s majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri has confirmed the speculation and a £35m fee agreed, with Barkley who reportedly asked to “reconsider his position during the January window”.

Chelsea failed to sign an attacking-midfielder on the last day of transfer market, but landed both Davide Zappacosta and Danny Drinkwater to Stamford Bridge.

According to sport journalist Mina Rzouki Chelsea boss Antonio Conte could be the reason why many players snubbed a move to Stamford Bridge in this summer transfer window.

Romeu Lukaku preferred to sign for Manchester United while Fernando Llorente, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Ross Barkley were the latest, with the Everton midfielder changing his mind while undergoing medical tests before signing his contract for the Blues.

Riyhad Mahrez was linked to Chelsea for months but it seems he will close his move to FC Barcelona today ( the Spanish market is open until tonight).

Rzouki believes that Conte’s playing style and a bad atmosphere surrounding Chelsea has cost them this summer.

“With players rejecting him, I do think there are individual reasons,” Rzouki told BBC Radio Five Live.

“I do think it’s bad luck but they are also rejecting a club that looks like it has a bad atmosphere at the moment.

“If the coach looks to be furious and everyone’s wondering whether he’s in our out of the door, it’s not going to create a great dressing room harmony.

“Players are not going to look at it and think ‘this is a team I want to join’.

“These days players have their pick of clubs and they want to play for a coach that really wants them.

SkySports reported that Everton star Ross Barkley turned down a move to Chelsea changing his mind during the medical.

And Everton’s majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri has confirmed this rumor: “The two clubs agreed a deal of £35m and personal terms were agreed and after the medical we heard from Ross Barkley’s agent that he had changed his mind. He told us he wanted to reconsider and stay with us for the time being”.
