Chelsea centre-back Gary Cahill spoke after goalless draw with Slovakia.

Wales qualified as first after beating Russia, that have been eliminated from Euro 2016.

The 30-year-old has admitted his frustration after losing their 1st place in their group: “We tried and tried time and time again but they shut the door in our face.”

“It’s disappointing for us tonight because in all three group games we’ve had the majority of possession.”

Then Cahill added: “We dominated the play from start to finish tonight but we couldn’t unlock the door and it’s disappointing for us.”

“We had the ball constantly but we didn’t have the cutting edge to open them up.”

“In games like that sometimes you need something a little bit special when they just sit back with a bank of five and four.”

Chelsea defender and England international Gary Cahill believes it to be imperative that England top the group in the European Championship to give them the best chance of progressing through the competition, avoiding the better teams for as long as possible.

They face Slovakia tonight and a win would secure the top spot and a better draw in the next round.

If England were to win their group they would face third place finishers of groups A, C or D.

If they were to come second they would come up against the runners-up of group F.

A third place in the group and they would face the toughest task of the winners in groups C or D, which are currently Germany and Spain, obviously two of the better teams in the competition.

“To top the group gives us the best opportunity to move forward in the competition.

“So that is our goal and we are all aware of that. We want to finish top and we feel that we are good enough to do that – we just need to prove it against Slovakia.

“They need a result to stay in the competition as well and we know it’s going to be a hard game.”

Petr Cech will move to Arsenal this summer © Francesca Ceciarini

This, surely, is not the best moment in Petr Cech’s career: after revealing last week he might leave Chelsea after 11 years on next summer due to the “relegation” to “number 2 goalkeeper” by José Mourinho the Czech player seems to have suffered a small injury that forced him to leave his national team squad.

Czech Republic is scheduled to play Slovakia tomorrow night, but the Chelsea goalkeeper had the permission to leave the camp to reach London after this little muscular problem emerged.

In this moment we cannot understand if this injury would prevent Cech to be selected for next Saturday clash against Stoke City.
