Transfer market's doubts for Blues: can Scott Dann really be the good man to shore up the defence?

If John Stones will really be the first summer signing at the Etihad for Pep Guardiola,  Chelsea should have to look somewhere else for their defensive reinforcements after their tried and failed sign for the english defender last summer.

Chelsea have then identified Crystal Palace defender Scott Dann as an ideal summer transfer target, according to the Daily Mail, but Palace value the defender at £20m too much even for the huge Blues strongbox

The 29-year-old has recently signed a new five-year deal at Selhurst Park, which will not ease Chelsea’s hopes of getting the Eagles at a bargain.

John Stones

It’s understood Chelsea are interested in John Stones.

Stones is an English professional footballer who plays for Everton and the England national football team. Born as a central defender, he can also play as a right back.

He began his career with Barnsley, making his professional debut in the Championship in March 2012. Then he joined Everton for around £3 million in January 2013. Stones made his senior debut for England in 2014.

And Stones impressed Chelsea and Manchester City this season. In particular, Jose Mourinhois eyeing the 20-year old since last season as he is searching for a possible replacement for the experienced captain John Terry.

As socceraspects.com reports,  Chelsea are going to launch a bid worth about £20 million for Stones.

Chelsea are interested in signing Everton full back John Stones, should Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane not leave the Bernabeu this summer.

Stones has three years left on his contract, but is attracting increasing attention, according to the London Evening Standard.

Varane on the other hand, is reportedly manager Jose Mourinho’s first choice. However, he is looking to be an increasingly tough signature, as he has climbed up the pecking order at Los Blancos in recent months. This in turn makes the the Frenchman’s signature look more and more unlikely.

The Blues’ cause is hindered further by the fact that 21-year old Varane has a contract at Real until 2020.

Stones is considered as a Plan B, but has impressed on Merseyside after joining the Toffees from Barnsley for £3 million in 2013.

The 20-year old also has four senior England caps to his name, with his signature helping Chelsea to conform to Home Grown Players rules.

He still has three years left on his current deal at Goodison Park, with Everton reportedly asking for a minimum of £20 million for his signature.

The 20-year-old has benefited from playing alongside Phil Jagielka at the heart of Everton’s defence and has shown great confidence in his ability to read the game and bring the ball out of defence.

Stones exploits for the Toffees have earned him a call-up to Roy Hodgson’s England squad and has also attracted plenty of other admirers. Jose Mourinho is understood to be keen on the former Barnsley centre-half, who is equally comfortable at right-back.

Chelsea are also keeping tabs on Stones’ teammate Seamus Coleman, according to the Daily Mail.
