“When you have the chance to make this substitution with David Luiz, you do” Conte added.

“He had a contusion, we made a substitution but the player didn’t want to come off. The same time when you have a player like Luiz is what simple for me to tell him no. The referee tried to force this substituion. Tomorrow he will likely train.”

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte spoke after his side’s away victory over Brighton at AMEX Stadium earlier this afternoon.

The Italian boss said: “It was a good result for us. Recently we haven’t scored a lot but today we did, today we kept a clean sheet and Brighton created chances. Before the game I think a lot of people had perplexity for suspension and injuries, instead during the game we showed a great personality to be a team. We started the game very well and a good combination. We must be happy for this”.

“Who told this has to pay great attention with the stats as we were unbeaten for 14 games. The press tried to make it seem there were problems, we are doing an important work. To win in this way, to lose with five players less. Despite this we won 4-0 and it means every player deserved to have a chance. I am pleased with the performance”.

“On the bench we had Musonda, Ampadu and Sterling, we had youth and gave them a chance. You have to continue this way. I am very happy because every single player felt this responsibility”.
