Soccer Football - Premier League - Chelsea vs Everton - London, Britain - August 27, 2017 Chelsea's Cesc Fabregas celebrates scoring their first goal

Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas played 77′ against Newcastle United before being replaced by Tiemoue Bakayoko in the second half at Stamford Bridge.

The Spaniard, who left the pitch after Eden Hazard’s chipped penalty, told Sky Sports: “The gap is eight points now, and there’s still a long way to go so that’s why we have to keep getting closer and closer”.

About Manchester City, Fabregas said: “I hope they slip up, they are there because they deserve it. Our job is to keep winning. We managed to come back well and at the end it was a good win.”

Chelsea are currently level on points with Manchester United, who face Arsenal at Emirates Stadium this evening, while the Citizens maintain an eight-point gap on the Blues before hosting West Ham United tomorrow (kick-off 4PM BST).

Eden Hazard was clearly the man of the match in the Premier League clash against Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge. The Belgian star was asked about his chipped penalty, which secured Chelsea a 3-1 win over the Magpies.

“When I take the ball in my hands I want to do this – Hazard told SkySports HQ after the game – And I want the keeper to move. Thankfully he moved and I scored. I’m not frustrated that I didn’t get a hat-trick. The most important thing is that we won the game. I’m not disappointed I didn’t stay on to get the hat-trick, sometimes rest is good.”

It is understood Belgium will face England national team in the World Cup 2018: “England is a tough game. – Hazard added – All the teams in the World Cup deserve to be there. We will see what happens.”

A Chelsea defensive blunder gave the lead to the Magpies, who scored with Dwight Gayle after just 12′ at Stamford Bridge. The Blues dominated the game despite the goal conceded, and found the equalizer with Eden Hazard after Christensen had hit the post and Alvaro Morata went close to scoring. The Spaniard completed a massive comeback with a header, well assisted by Victor Moses into the penalty area, securing Chelsea a 2-1 at halftime.

Antonio Conte believes Chelsea did not have time to rest before Newcastle United‘s clash, which is set for today (12.30PM BST) and hopes “the club will try to do something about this situation”.

Chelsea have beaten Swansea City just on Wednesday, while Rafa Benitez’s men played their last Premier League game on Tuesday night against West Bromwich Albion (2-2).

Conte told Chelsea’s official website: “Newcastle played on Tuesday night, we played on Wednesday night and now we have to play on Saturday at 12.30pm”

“I don’t want to complain but against Watford we should have played on the Monday and then they changed it to Saturday at 12.30pm after we’d played on the Wednesday but, okay, once it can happen. It happened for the second time against Manchester City. The third time you start feeling perplexed and now again against Newcastle”.

“I don’t want advantages for my team, I want the same rest as our opponents. Is it difficult to do this? I don’t think so. I think now there is a strange coincidence. I want to try to protect my club, my players and our fans”.

Then he added: “Also, I want to protect the league because if you say we have 11 points less than Manchester City, you must remember when we played them they had one more day’s rest than us. We played against Liverpool and Liverpool rested one more day than us and now again. After only 14 games it’s happened four times and now it’s very difficult to think that this is a coincidence, honestly“.

“If we have to play every two days I’m ready but we need to have the same rest as our opponents and then we’ll see what happens. If you give one more day of rest [to some teams] when you play every three days and you have injuries, you can find a lot of difficulties”.

Conte admitted he spoke with the club earlier this week, as ‘Qarabag situation was incredible’: “I hope my club try to do something about the situation because I’m trying to protect my club, my players and also the league. The Qarabag situation was incredible. I want respect for my job, my players, my club and the fans. This is the fourth time. I’m not stupid, if someone wants to joke with me I’m not the person to joke with”.

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte believes rotation of his players will crucial during the current campaign as the Blues are facing three different competitions instead of just two.

The Italian manager, speaking ahead of next clash against Newcastle United, confirmed he will rotate Chelsea players once again following the last game against Swansea, in which he made several changes: “In this period it’s very important to have rotation and give rest to all of the players, – said Conte. – I think it was positive because we won the game, it was a good answer from all my players. When the period is so busy it’s a necessity to have this rotation”.

Cesar Azpilicueta was among the Chelsea players who rested on Wednesday night against Swansea at Stamford Bridge: “If you have to play four competitions in one season it’s normal to have this type of rotation. – Conte added – It’s right for every player to accept my decision. I try to make the best decision for us to try to win every game. I trust my players, I believe in my players and I like to give them the chance to show they deserve to play”.

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte gave his thoughts ahead of tomorrow’s game against Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge (kick-off: 12.30PM GMT)

The Italian coach has given an injury update: David Luiz and Musonda are out, Batshuayi and Kenedy have just started to work with us, – he said, speaking at a press conference in Cobham training centre – They need time to find their best physical condition but it’s important they are back”.

When quizzed about the Brazilian centre-back, who suffered a knee injury recently, Conte added: “Now David Luiz is having treatment in his knee. How long will he be out for? It’s not simple to understand how long but at the same time the doctor is doing his best to recover him soon”.
