Chelsea and Belgium international goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has revealed that he thinks Belgium have been lucky enough to receive an ‘easy’ team in the first knock-out round of the European Championship.

Belgium will play Hungary in the last 16 round and have managed to avoid favourites of the group Portugal.

“We have to admit that we have an ‘easy’ half of the draw because obviously all the teams that are there deserve it but there are no big teams like Spain, France or Italy.”

However, Courtois told RTBF that his team will not underestimate Hungary after they topped their group with considerable ease.

“Of course we have to do everything but Hungary had three good matches and they are first in their group.

“We will be favourites in this match but we’ll have to be careful because they’re going to play defensively and we’ll have to be focused from the start.”

Zenit St. Petersburg star Axel Witsel has been a Chelsea target for more than one year but now the Blues will have to face the competition of two Italian clubs: Juventus and Napoli.

After signing Miralem Pjanic from Roma, the Champions of Italy are interested in the Belgian midfielder too.

The Russian side are keen in Bianconeri midfielder Roberto Pereyra, so the two clubs are thinking about a deal to include both players, with Juventus that  should add a money fee to bring the Belgian midfielder to Turin. A reason why the deal would be easier for them.

Anyway, it’s a last minute news from Sky Sport Italia that also Napoli are in the race to sign him: it won’t be easy to bring Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois compatriot to Stamford Bridge.

Today’s the Chelsea day at EURO 2016: in fact, the Blues will have five of their six men participating to the tournament involved in the games.

Spain will play against Czech Republic, captained by Chelsea legend Petr Cech, at 3 pm CET, 2 pm in the UK.

Cesc Fabregas is likely to start, while Cesar Azpilicueta and Pedro should be substitutes, but we will see if Vicente Del Bosque will really prefer to play Juanfran and Nolito instead of them, as many Spanish reporters say.

Tonight we will have a very fascinating game between Belgium and Italy, where three of the main Blues men are involved: Eden Hazard will captain Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and his other fellow-mates against the national team coached by his next boss, Antonio Conte.

The Belgian wizard already stated that he will try to impress his next gaffer, we will see if Gianluigi Buffon and defenders like Andrea Barzagli and Giorgio Chiellini will be able to stop him.

In this game three other players linked to Chelsea will be involved as well: ex forwards Romelu Lukaku and Kevin de Bruyne, currently at Everton and Manchester City, and Radja Nainggolan, who can wear the Blues shirt since next season, being one of the main target of Antonio Conte to revamp the midfield.

Radja Nainggolan and Chelsea: a deal that can be closed soon, as both parts are keen to find an agreement.

The Belgian midfielder revealed that he already spoke to next Blues boss Antonio Conte:

“I spoke to him and he told me what he is expecting from me,” he revealed in a press conference ahead of EURO 2016, where he will play with Belgium.

“Conte is a good coach, and he showed his value at Juventus, where he won, but also at Siena.

“He told me which kind of player I can be in his team, it’s important to know that a manager wants to really sign you.

Courtois and Hazard are trying to convince to go to London with them.

“I would leave Italy after eleven years only for huge improvements, in all aspects, not for small details. Italy is my second home. Another player would say ‘Why to risk there?”

Recently, Thibaut Courtois committed his future to Chelsea, saying he didn’t want to go anywhere but for now he will concentrate on his international performances with Belgium at Euro 2016.

Courtois told Chelsea‘s official website that he believes Belgium could go all the way and win it after reaching the quarter finals at the last World Cup in 2014.

“I’m very much looking forward to the tournament. It’s the second one for our generation, and after the World Cup when we reached the quarter-final, we felt we could do better.

“The hope this year is to go as far as possible. It’ll be very hard, there are lots of top teams and you need sometimes to be a bit lucky. We go there and we think we are one of the teams that could win it, but of course we have to go step by step.

“We have a good side and we can go far but we must go step-by-step and approach every game like a final. A lot of it is about momentum. If you win your first game you feel in the mood and you are ready to do great things. Sometimes it is luck on the day that helps you or doesn’t help you.”

Chelsea players Eden Hazard, Thibaut Courtois and Marco van Ginkel were all protagonist their national teams games last night.

The two Belgian players both started and the playmaker was the Red Devils captain for the first time.

Belgium eventually drew 1-1 against Finland, with the equaliser scored by ex Chelsea talent Romelu Lukaku at the last minute.

Van Ginkel started with Netherlands in the friendly game against Poland, that the Orange won 2-1 with goals by Janssen and Wijnaldum, while Jedrzejczyk scored the temporary equaliser for the Lewandowski‘s team.

Holland, anyway, incredibly missed the qualification for EURO 2016, so they won’t take part to the continental tournament in France.

Chelsea goalkeeper Thibuat Courtois discussed over the disappointing season for the Blues and his dreams of European Championship success with Belgium.

The 24-year-old said: “We have clearly not had a good season. When you are way down the table after two or three months you should not be blind to the fact.”

“You know it will not be possible to play a role in the title race. But we still had the FA Cup and Champions League.”

“Yet we came up against Everton in the cup— and they played better than us. Then we met Paris Saint-Germain in Europe and didn’t play to our normal standard.”

Asked about his ambitions for Euro 2016, the Belgium international reportedly added: “We’re dreaming of reaching the final.”

“We are more outsiders than favourites, but you need experience, which is something our squad has.”
