Thibaut Courtois helped Chelsea to secure three points at Sunderland last night with a couple of stunning save, especially one in the very last minute of the injury time.

The Blues number one was ofter criticised by the fans in the past year for some comments that gave the impression he wasn’t fully commit to Chelsea, but the Belgian keeper wanted to make things clear after the win against the Black Cats:

“I think sometimes my comments didn’t come out the way I meant.

“I can understand they [the Chelsea fans] were frustrated, but I never meant it that way.

“They can clearly see that I am fully committed to this club, I want to win games and to win trophies for this club. I will do my very best for Chelsea.”

The Blues supporters will surely appreciate these words, that then was asked about his saves, Courtois added:

“It was good that I went to warm up again at half-time just to have that feeling of the ball again, to keep warm. The Januzaj save was only two or three minutes into the second half and I was ready for it. The last save [from Van Aanholt] was a huge one because I had to take it a bit behind my body.”

“It’s good that our title rivals would have come back into the dressing room having won, Liverpool for example, and will have been thinking, ‘Damn, Chelsea won as well.’ That’s a good thing for us.

“On Saturday we are the first team to play [at Crystal Palace], so we have to show that we can get three points and then the others are under pressure to win as well.”

Current Chelsea pitch captain Gary Cahill spoke after the important success at Sunderland, the 10th win in a row that allow the Blues to stay top of the table:

“You knock those stats out and at this moment in time, it’s difficult to criticise that,”  the English defender said after the game.

“At this moment in time, we are going well. But football goes week by week, month by month.

“We want to keep this going and continue the good spirit that’s in our camp at the minute. That’s the most important thing for us.

Cahill also praised team-mate Thibaut Courtois, that allowed his team to stay alive with two stunning saves:

“We are not letting goals in. Thibaut pulled off two vital saves for us so he showed his worth.

“Although I didn’t think he had loads to do, that’s what top keepers do. A couple of key moments and he produced.

“We owed him late on for that, but defensively we are making blocks, we are putting our heads in the way, clearing the ball and letting the lads go forward and create, which they did on numerous occasions.”

Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas started in midfield against Sunderland, scoring with a curled shot past Jordan Pickford in the first half.

“In the first we were fantastic, we didn’t give them anything, – the Spaniard confirmed – They are a good team, playing at home and they want to win, so in the second half they put us under a little bit of pressure”.

“The only downside was that we need to kill games when we have the chance, but the performance was really good. We will watch the videos tomorrow but we felt we were very strong”.

‘We want to keep winning, we know in this period we can send a strong message and hopefully we can continue like this”.

About his teammate Thibaut Courtois, whose outstanding save secured Chelsea’s 0-1 win: “It’s very good we can compete like that, we should have been more clinical but credit to the defence, the whole team and Thibaut Courtois, who made some excellent saves, which shows we are together and strong”.

Then Fabregas added: “People say I cannot defend but I recovered the ball, went forward and scored,”

“It’s fantastic for me to score. I know what I can do but the problem is I haven’t had minutes, and if you don’t play you can’t show what you can do”.

“People forget it’s only the second time in my life, in my whole career, I’ve played this sytem. My team-mates have played a lot more than me”.

Fabregas played a key role also in the Blues’ away win at the Etihad Stadium: “Against Manchester City it was a big test because it was the first game. I’m getting used to it, I feel very comfortable. I have a lot of players in front of me so I can pick passes between the lines, they run into space and I have protection behind me. I’m really enjoying it and I think it suits me a lot”.

“Now I’ve had two starts in 10 days which is good for keeping my physical level up”, Fabregas stated “because you can train and train but nothing compares to the game. I felt it in the last 15 minutes when I didn’t have the energy I had in the first 75 minutes.”

“I’m satisfied for the team because we fought very hard: we can compete”.

Diego Costa's stunning winner against WBA © Francesca Ceciarini

Diego Costa is on fire and Thibaut Courtois hails his long-time team-mate, since the pair shared the dressing room also in Spain, at Atletico Madrid:

I remember the year we were champions with Atletico he was very strong, and the year we were champions with Chelsea he was very strong as well,” the Belgian goalkeeper told the official Chelsea website.

“This season up to now he has scored very important goals. He is really strong on the ball as well and he dribbles past defenders like it is nothing, so he is very strong at the moment and we can only enjoy that and use him as our strength.

“It was a rough time for all the team last year but from January or February Diego was already scoring a lot of goals, and he has just carried that form on.

“The goal against West Brom came from a little mistake by their defender and Diego scored fantastically.”

Former Chelsea and WBA goalkeeper Tony Godden spoke to the Blues official website ahead of tomorrow’s clash at Stamford Bridge, where the teams will face each other:

West Brom are doing well and I am glad they stuck with Tony Pulis,”

“He is a very thorough and knowledgeable man and a good coach.

Speaking about the two keeper he stated:

“Thibaut Courtois and Ben Foster are excellent. They make saves.

“You hear managers saying they want keepers who can control a ball and pass 30 yards and it makes me smile because my question is can he make saves, because that is how he is going to win you a game.

“These two are keepers that win points for their clubs.”

Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is impressing with his teammates, as he conceded only 9 goals in 11 Premier League games so far.

The Belgium international told the club’s official website: “We are taking it match by match,

“It’s quite hard to keep a run going in this league but after the couple of matches we lost we have won seven in a row which is very good.

“Now we are going to Man City to try and get another result, and then after it the next away games are at Sunderland and Crystal Palace, and it is games like those that decide if you are going to be champions or not”.

Then Courtois added: “You can win big matches even if you’re not having a good season, because it is a big match or a derby, but it is the smaller matches against difficult adversaries that you will see if you are going to be champions or not.”

Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois praised his teammate Diego Costa, who scored 10 times in Premier League after being repeatedly like with an exit from Stamford Bridge last summer.

“Since January he has scored a lot of goals even when the team were not having a great season, – Courtois told the club’s official website – And this year he is strong, he has movement, he always tests the opposition defence, and for the second goal it was a great move from him and a nice assist for Moses.’

Real Madrid are keen on Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois: the Champions of Europe have been looking for a new “number one” for a couple of years, after Iker Casillas left to end his career at Porto.

The Spanish side are looking for a player to replace Keylor Navas, that is not considered good enough for the team despite being the goalkeeper of “La Undecima” and after failing to sign David De Gea from Manchester United eighteen months ago, the Red Devils and José Mourinho told them they have not intention to let the Spaniard leave to join them in the next transfer windows.

So if FIFA will withdraw the transfer ban imposed on the La Liga giants for the next two transfer windows, they will ty to sign the Blues keeper, who has been impressing first at Atletico Madrid and then at Stamford Bridge.

But Chelsea are not really keen to let Courtois go, unless a huge offer would come from Spain, and with Real Madrid everything is possible.

He then went on explaining how Conte’s passion is helping them to keep this kind of performances:

“He’s like that every session. When we do tactics he’s very passionate and demands. He keeps the team sharp.”
