Thibaut Courtois suggests Chelsea the way to successfully end this title race, claiming the Blues are already thinking about the big clash at Anfield in the end of this month:

“We just have to take it game by game but the most important thing is for us to go to Anfield [on 31 January] with the biggest gap possible.”

The Belgian goalkeeper also think that his mates and him had a dangerous match last Saturday, where the team could slip up but eventually took three points home:

“Saturday was a game where, if I’m sitting at home and one of our opponents is playing Leicester away, I’d think they could drop points, so it was very good for us to win the game, and win well.

“Now, at home against Hull we have to get the three points and then go to Anfield with this gap, because anything could happen there.

“Obviously if you are in front you have the pressure of wanting to keep that gap, but we are there, we are seven points clear and the pressure is more on the other teams than on us.

“We must keep winning our games but we are in a good moment and things are going well. Last season we were having a rough time, it was harder to get the wins and we were having bits of bad luck, but this year everything is in our favour so we want to keep the momentum and win our games.”

Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois claims everyone is happy at Chelsea, despite their top striker Diego Costa involved in a transfer market saga.

The Spaniard allegedly received monster offers from a couple of Chinese Super League sides and didn’t train with the rest of the squad in the past days, being also dropped for Leicester City game: the official reason is that he is suffering from back pain, but it seems something is going on during this transfer window.

This situation, anyway, doesn’t seem to affect his team-mates, who won 3-0 at King Power Stadium:

“Yes. We are very happy, everyone is happy at Chelsea at the moment,” Courtois told reporters after the win against the Champions of England.

“If you are in first place with a seven point lead, it helps. It helps that you are winning, it helps in the way you’re working and helps everybody accept the way of working.

“The mood is very good, everyone trains very hard during the week. When we win like Saturday, we get a free day on the Sunday and it is obviously a nice feeling. Diego didn’t train since Tuesday and the manager had a plan in his head.

“We trained very well and we knew what to do. We played the same against Bournemouth as well. I don’t think it [Diego’s absence] is something that will effect us, but I think we did well again, with the guys up front. That’s good for us.”

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte praised also goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who is performing very well with stunning and crucial saves so far.

When asked about the similarities between Italian goalkeeping legend Gianluigi Buffon and Courtois himself, Conte told the club’s official website: “Their stories are similar because Gigi started his career at Parma and Thibaut also started to play early, I hope Thibaut can repeat the same career as Gigi because he is one of the best goalkeepers of all time”.

“I was with him at Juventus as a team-mate and then as his coach, and with the national team. Buffon is a football legend and I hope Thibaut can be the same”.

About Courtois, Conte added: “He has great potential to continue to do great things and reach big targets. Thibaut is a Chelsea player and I want him to stay here. I think he’s very happy to stay here, I see him at this club for many years, I don’t see any problem”.

The Belgian star has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid next summer, but Conte is confident that the Blues’ goalkeeper will decide to stay at Stamford Bridge amid their interest.

He ended: “This is a club decision but in my opinion Thibaut deserves to stay at Chelsea for many years and write his story at the club, become a legend”.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte spoke to the media before the Premier League leaders clash against Stoke City today.

The Italian manager dismissed speculations about Thibaut Courtois moving to Real Madrid, that have been keen on the Belgian keeper for months:

“Thibaut for me is one of the best, if not the best goalkeeper in the world,” the Blues manager said.

“He is working very well and is a fantastic goalkeeper and he stays with us, this is the most important thing and the other situations are only speculation.”

Always speaking about transfer market, Conte talked about Oscar’s possible replacement:

“In January it is always very difficult to buy because every team thinks to keep their best players, not to sell but with the club we are thinking about the best way to face the rest of the season. For sure we are thinking about our situation and our squad.”

Conte also spoke about Oscar’s super deal:

“When you have a good group, a new player can arrive into the group in a simple way, and for sure we have sold Oscar and we have money to spend, but it is important to spend money in the right way. I prefer to buy players adapted to our system that can come into our team and pass, but I repeat, it is not easy in January to find these type of players but with the club, we are working on this aspect.”

The Italian coach also spoke about Chelsea youngsters, that are ready to perform in the first team in case of need:

“We have a lot of young players and I trust in them. Ola Aina, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Nathaniel Chalobah, and also we have Zouma returned.”

Conte spoke also about two youngster who came back from their loan experience, and he explained why:

Kenedy and Charly Musonda came back from their loans at Watford and Real Betis because they didn’t play a lot and for this reason it is important for them to stay with us these weeks to evaluate the best situation for them and the team.

“It is important also to work with these type of young players to try find the right solutions at home, and if this is not possible, it is important to look around to find the solution.”

Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois told the club’s official website ‘letting in only two goals is amazing’.

With the Blues still top of the table with 46 points so far, the Belgian star took a closer look at the season.

“After that Arsenal game we had to build a new thing and we did it well, – Courtois stated – And there is a lot of hard work in training. It was not just that we did a new formation and it will work”.

“As a goalkeeper it doesn’t change much but now we are more solid at the back than at the beginning of the season, it is harder for people to break us down, and when they do try to score a goal I try to save it”.

Then Courtois added: “Some other teams tried to defeat us as well with that formation but if it is well-worked like we do it, it is hard to break down and every day in training we do it a lot”.

“That is why we have this run at the moment and we just try to keep it going and we will see in few weeks and months where we are standing, and hopefully we will be there in the race for the championship”.

Chelsea will travel to Britannia Stadium as they are set to face Stoke City in next Premier League fixture.

“In the Premier League things go really fast, – Courtois confirmed – So we just have to keep the focus on ourselves and play game by game and then we will see. Stoke at home will be hard and then we go to Tottenham, to Leicester, they are all tough games, and after we have Hull, Liverpool and Arsenal”.

“So it is an important moment for us and then we will see where we stand in February. If we keep our concentration on doing what we have to do then we can keep the run going”.

“Concentration is a big factor, if you keep on shouting and being busy with the game you are always staying in it, and I think that is one of my strong points, focus and concentration during the game”.

“I learned a lot of it when I was at Atletico which was a bit the same as now so I just try to be there for that one big save that can help us win a game”.

Courtois made some great saves also in the clash against Bournemouth“I managed to make two very good saves – he said – The first one  was low to my right and after that there was a shot that was blocked by Azpi that maybe I could have reached but I am not sure, and then with the Afobe shot, I saw him coming past a bit so I knew I had to close the space and I made myself big, and I am two metres tall so I think it is hard to get the ball past me”.

Thibaut Courtois explains how Chelsea‘s mentality changed after the defeats against Liverpool and Arsenal last September and how the Blues could win 12 games in a row since then:

“We knew that maybe our mentality was not right in those two games we lost against Liverpool and Arsenal.

“They were tough games and we didn’t have the same intensity as Arsenal or Liverpool. If you don’t put the same intensity in as the other side, you will not win that kind of game.

“So that’s why we talked as a team about making a step up at that point, because we didn’t want to have the same season as last year. We needed to step up and that’s what we did.

“Obviously with the current run of wins of course we would say we are doing maybe better than expected after a bad season last year.

“We are top of the league with more points than we had after this many games when we were champions two years ago.

“So that says we are doing well but we have to keep on working hard and fighting a lot against the teams who defend more and are hard to break down. We will try to do our best and keep the run going.”

Courtois has kept ten clean sheets during this impressive wins’ run and has not been beaten in over 400 minutes in the recent games:

“If you can win games and keep clean sheets it gives confidence to all the team and to the goalkeeper especially,” he concluded.

According to reports coming from Spain, especially from Radio Onda Cero journalist José Ramon de la Morena, Chelsea keeper Thibaut Courtois is negotiating with Real Madrid.

The Champions of Europe, who this week had their transfer ban reduced to just one window, are reportedly already working on summer deals.

Florentino Perez wants to sign a new goalkeeper, since only Keylor Navas and Kiko Casilla in Zinedine Zidane‘s first-team squad.

The Belgium international is under contract until 2019 but Chelsea have little interest in selling one of their key players.

Courtois disappointed Blues fans many times in the past with some unfortunate declarations, especially when in September he hinted at a La Liga return and revealed he considers himself to be ‘half-Spanish’.

Sky Sports pundits Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher both picked up their half-way team of the season and, of course, many Chelsea players were chosen by the two English football legends.

Speaking about the strikers, Carragher had words full of praise for Chelsea star Diego Costa:

I’ve gone for Costa, I think he’s been outstanding,” the ex Liverpool defender said.

“He’s top goalscorer in the league and I think he makes a massive difference, when he’s on song you think he’s really going to take some stopping.”

This is the team chosen by Carragher, with other four Blues players in it:

Pickford, Azpilicueta, Luiz, Van Dijk, Bertrand, De Bruyne, Kante, Lallana, Hazard, Costa, Sanchez

While Neville chose these ones, six Blues players made his top XI:

Courtois, Azpilicueta, Luiz, Van Dijk, Rose, Lallana, Kante, Fernandinho, Hazard, Costa, Ibrahimovic.

Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is showing a great shape with the Blues so far, conceding only 2 goals in the last 8 Premier League games.

The Belgium international told the club’s official website: “It’s going very well, I didn’t have so much work on Saturday, there was one save low down to my left and I came to claim a couple of high balls well, so after that they had to put the crosses further away from me”.

Chelsea won last away game against Crystal Palace thanks to Diego Costa‘s header.

‘In the first 20 minutes of the second half we suffered but I think when Cesc came on we found more balls between the lines and it became calmer for us. We had some good chances, we didn’t take them, but I think we deserved to win”.

“It was a good clean sheet, good work from all the team and another victory so we’re happy. Now we want to enjoy Christmas and after that we have another important game against Bournemouth.”

About Diego Costa, who will be ruled out of next game against Bournemouth, Courtois stated: “It’s a big blow because he’s a top striker, He scored his 13th goal of the season and he’s in top form”.

“He’s been one booking away for many games now, so if he’d had a bit more luck he would have stayed like that until the New Year, when it’s gone, but hopefully Michy, or whoever the manager plays there, will do well”.

Chelsea staff can count also on a ‘good bench’, as confirmed by the goalkeeper himself.

“For the manager, it’s not easy to choose players. With Cesc, Michy, Pedro, Ivanovic and Zouma we had a good bench and to be champions you need not only 11 players, but 18 or 22, the whole squad. We have a good team and we try to prove that every week.”

Then Courtois added: “That defeat to Arsenal hurt us but we’ve come back stronger with the new tactics and system. It works well, everybody is doing their job and we keep on winning. The spirit is very important”.

“This week was good because we played against smaller teams but they defend well and it’s hard to break them down. To win all three games 1-0 is very good and we’re happy”.

Bournemouth and then Stoke City will travel to West London as they will face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Boxing Day.

“We now have two home games in front of our fans so we need to win them both.”

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte spoke after today’s 0-1 win against Crystal Palace, which secured the 11th win in a row so far this season.

“The run is fantastic. Congratulations to my players, not me – Conte said after the game – I am pleased for them because they deserve this. I see every single moment, every day. It is commitment, the way we prepare for the game and the way they fight. I am pleased for the fans who are fantastic home and away and who push us”.

Then Conte added: “We can improve though. You can always improve in different aspects. I am pleased with this level we have reached, but it is important to understand we are only at the 17th game in the season. We must not look at the table. We must not look at our rivals and continue working hard ourselves”.

Thibaut Courtois at full stretch made a stunning save against West Bromwich Albion last time out and Conte underlined the importance of a decisive goalkeeper in the squad.

“We have reached a good balance between offence and defence. In some moments, our goalkeeper has been decisive. We dominated the last game but Thibaut made a fantastic save. After last season when he conceded lots of goals, this season is very good for him. We attack and defend as a team.”
