Chelsea latest results and performances have restored confidence in the Blues players as shown by Thibaut Courtois words to the Chelsea official website.

We have been playing well lately,” Courtois said “Liverpool have been having a great season, they obviously have the Champion League in their mind, but they also know that if they get a good result here against us, they are guaranteed of the Champions League next season as well. For us, we have to win on Sunday, win against Huddersfield and win at Newcastle and then hope that maybe in the last game, Brighton [in their match against Liverpool] can do something for us, but we will see. We can win all of our games and finish on the same points as Liverpool, but we have to score so many more goals than them so it will be hard”.

The Belgian goalkeeper then said he expects a very close game tomorrow at Stamford Bridge:

Lately you can see Liverpool have had very good games, offensively they are very strong, but you see as well that they can concede goals,’ he explained. ‘I think the game we played against them away, they were in a good moment of form then. We played a very good game and we deserved the draw”. Courtois went on. “It was an equal game and it will be an equal game on Sunday I think. When you win a game to put yourself in the Champions League final, you have a confidence and they will be ready to win, so we have to be on point, and hopefully we will get the right result”.

Chelsea can still hope to qualify for the next Champions League after they beat Burnley tonight at Turf Moor.

After finishing the first half up 1-0 thanks to Long’s own goal, the Blues, in the second half, failed a great chance with Alvaro Morata and few minutes later conceded the draw: shot by Gudmunsson deflected by Barnes and no chance for Courtois to make the save.

However, Antonio Conte‘s side found the winning goal with Victor Moses and got three crucial points in their run to finish in the Premier League top four.

The Belgian keeper, however, gave a good news to all the Blues supporters as he told Belgian new outlet Sporza he believes he will stay in London also next season: “I have one year left on my contract and I feel good at Chelsea, and at the end of the season we’ll sit down together and talk about the future.” Courtois said. “I feel at ease, knowing that I will still be at Chelsea next year. If I go to the World Cup with a clear idea, sign or wait another year, my mind will be clear at the World Cup. Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has withdrawn from Belgium’s squad to face Saudi Arabia due to an ongoing hamstring issue and now he is a major doubt for Easter Sunday’s clash against Spurs.

Blues boss Antonio Conte confirmed the Belgian keeper was suffering from a “muscular problem” ahead of last weekend’s FA Cup quarter-final win over Leicester City, although second goalkeeper Willy Caballero usually starts domestic cup games.

Courtois joined up with Roberto Martinez‘s national side anyway but Belgium have confirmed he will continue his rehabilitation at Chelsea training ground in Cobham and won’t take part in Tuesday’s friendly.

Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois gave a positive update on his contract situation at Stamford Bridge after some reports suggested a possible move to La Liga giants Real Madrid, with also PSG reportedly interested in placing a bid for the 25-year-old. The Belgian’s deal currently expires in June 2019, as Courtois himself confirmed: I have a contract until next year and I will be here. I will do my best for it, I am committed to Chelsea” he told Standard Sport.

“Obviously there is no extension signed but I don’t think now is the moment to do it. I think it is better to wait until the end of the season. All I can say is I’m committed to Chelsea and also committed for next year. I have no other thing to say. It’s easy when you have only one year remaining that other people might say something”.

Then he added: “I’m a bit annoyed by it because it’s a talking point and it’s a thing people went to dwell on. But I think the focus now should be on winning our League games to get a top four finish and back in the Champions League for next season as well as going through in the FA Cup. That’s the most important thing and is what we have to do”.

Speaking to BT Sport after the final whistle at Camp Nou Chelsea keeper Thibaut Courtois admitted his responsibility in both Messi’s goals:

“I don’t think we deserve to be out, but individual mistakes cost us in both legs,” the Belgium international started.

“The first goal, I did not expect Lionel Messi to shoot from that angle and I was too late in closing my legs. It was a mistake on my part.

“There were missed passes from us and they scored from our mistakes. We defended and played well, hit the crossbar which was unlucky on our side, but the individual mistakes cost us. We have to be honest about that.

“I played against Messi a lot of times, I have already conceded goals like that before. The weakest point is between the legs for a goalkeeper.

“It is annoying, I cannot hide inside, I have to be a man and come out.

“I made some good saves too, but we go out with conceding four goals from four mistakes.”

According to Goal.com Real Madrid is not the only club to pursue Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois but Paris Saint Germain has also target the Belgian player.

Goal reports that Courtois’ dad, Thierry, met PSG officials in London last Monday in order to discuss a possible deal for the next summer transfer window.

The Paris side are in the market for a new goalkeeper as they target an upgrade on current No.1 Alphonse Areola and the 25-year-old Courtois has been earmarked as one of the top candidates.

The Belgium international’s existing deal with Chelsea is due to expire come June 2019 and he is currently negotiating a + £200,000-a-week in contract renewal with the Blues.

Courtois has yet to make a decision on his long-term future, though, as he has admitted more than once that he would like to return to Madrid since his two children live there with their mother, so to be closer to his family.

Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois explains the discontent in the dressing room after suffering their seventh defeat in Premier League yesterday at Old Trafford:

“I am very disappointed, I think all the team are,” stated the Blues player after the setback.

“The first half we controlled, we dominated them in their home and we played so well. We scored a goal and then we could have had another one and it is annoying to concede another sloppy goal like on Tuesday against Barcelona. So we went in 1-1 at half-time when we should be leading.

“In the second half Man United started to control the game, it was more equal, and I don’t think they really deserved to win more than us. But that is football and the second half they had more chances but we could have won as well.’

The Belgian keeper considered why the second half proved more matched in performance level between the two sides.

“They maybe changed a bit so as to not let us so much on the ball.

“They dropped back and they kept three men up for the counter-attack, so they had seven plus the goalkeeper to defend so it is always dangerous. You have to prepare the counter-attack well, and we did that well in the first half. The second half they tried to have more possession, we tried as well but it was a bit harder, so it was a more equal game.”

Chelsea currently sit fifth in the Premier League with 53 points, 2 points behind Spurs who are in the fourth place while Arsenal are a further 8 points back but have a game in hand.

“It stays the same, it is tough,” Courtois said on the latest state of the quest for Champions League qualification.

“City are obviously far away but for the second, third and fourth spot there are five teams so it will be hard until the last match of the season. But I think we have enough quality as we saw on Sunday and we showed it against Barcelona. I think we are a very good team but there are some other good teams around us as well.”
