Thibaut Courtois

Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was full of praise after his side’s vital win at Goodison Park against Everton last time out.

The Belgium international told Chelsea’s official website: “It feels very significant, Everton won their last eight home games, they’ve been on a good run and they score a lot of goals so to keep a clean sheet, play well and win was good”.

Courtois made some great saves to deny Everton’s opener in the first half: “In the first half we had some difficulties because [Idrissa] Gueye was following Eden everywhere so it was difficult to find space – he added – In the second half Pedro scored a great goal and from that point we were able to control the game better”.

“We scored a good second goal, although maybe it was a bit lucky, and a fantastic third, so it feels good. There aren’t many games left so obviously it’s a good win”.

Manchester United will use Real Madrid star James Rodriguez as a part of the deal to land David De Gea to Santiago Bernabeu next summer, according to Spanish outlet Diario Gol.

The 25-year-old has been repeatedly linked with a move to Chelsea but will reportedly join the Red Devils as Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane made De Gea a top target and seems desperate to make a move to sign him.

This could mean that Chelsea star Thibaut Courtois won’t leave Stamford Bridge.

Thibaut Courtois skipped Manchester United‘s clash after an ankle injury he picked up during a commercial shoot, but it seems the Belgian keeper will be able to play tomorrow in the FA Cup semifinal against Spurs:

“He recovered for his injury and trained with us in this week, this is the most important thing.

“I spoke about what happened with the club, I keep secret what we said, commercial is an important part for the club, we have to find the right solution.”

Both Chelsea and Tottenham have injury issues related to their goalkeepers before the Fa Cup semifinal which will be played on Saturday at Wembley.

After Thibaut Courtois ankle problems, Asmir Begovic is likely to start for The Blues, while, for The Spurs, Michel Vorm will not be fit, so it will be Hugo Lloris who will be included in the Starting XI.

Chelsea back-up goalkeeper Asmir Begovic is expected to feature in the next FA Cup semi-final against Tottenham due to Thibaut Courtois’ ankle problem.

The Belgian international, who returned to training today, is reportedly struggling to recover from his injury.

Begovic told Standard Sport: “It would be nice to make it fourth time lucky this year. I had no complaints in 2008 because I was very young and was just happy to be in and around the squad. I’d left for Stoke the year Portsmouth got to a second final and then at Stoke it was a time of squad rotation”.

“I was playing in the League games and Sorensen was playing the Cup games. Fair play to him, I had no arguments there. It’s just the way it went. Thomas was a great keeper, did his bit for the team and the club. It’s what the manager decided so hopefully this time around it will be my turn.”

Begovic featured in Chelsea’s starting XI from the third to the fifth FA Cup round this term: “There is a little bit of a history and unfinished business in the competition for me. – he added – But it’s also about helping this team as much as possible”.

“It’s great to play in those kind of games, semi-finals and finals. They are great games to look forward to and I hope to be a part of it. That’s the reason why you play for a club like this.

“It’s important for me to perform in every game and hopefully the manager will trust me to take things forward as well.

“But I will leave it up to the manager. I’m completely buying into the philosophy of the team and us being successful.”

After his injury while filming an NBA promotional video at Cobham which kept him out of the clash vs Manchester United, Thibaut Courtois expects to be fit for Fa Cup semifinal vs Tottenham.

The Belgian goalkeeper told his friends he will be ready for the London derby which will be played on Saturday at Wembley.

If confirmed, this will be a major boost for Chelsea and manager Antonio Conte and their hope to reach the Fa Cup final.

If what HLN journalist Kristof Terreur revealed it’s true it would really crazy how Thibaut Courtois picked up his ankle injury that ruled him out of today’s clash against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The Belgian goalkeeper is a doubt also for next Saturday’s FA Cup semifinal against Spurs and, apparently, hurt himself while participating in the club-sanctioned marketing campaign last week.

Presumably the material created in the shoot was due to be used either by the club’s in-house media team, by a sponsor or by the NBA.

But the decision to organise it in the build-up to the United game will be called into question in the wake of a 2-0 loss at Old Trafford.

Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is confident that his side can beat Manchester United at Old Trafford tomorrow despite admitting ‘it will be a different game’.

“I think the game they played in the FA Cup against us might be the game they want to play again, because up until the red card it worked quite nice for them, they tried to block us on the way and defend better, – the Belgian star told Chelsea’s official website - It will be a different game, an away game, a hard game so I don’t think it will be so easy”.

“That is the way we are and that is the way we want to be. They are unbeaten, which for them may be mentally a strong thing, but we know we are in a good shape. We win difficult away games so why not there?”

Chelsea lost three points against Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge recently and Tottenham are pushing and putting pressure on the Blues following their 12th consecutive home victory.

“What maybe happened against Palace was we were too relaxed at a certain point, because we scored early and we were 10 points ahead, so I think for us it is good to be under pressure, - he said - But the pressure is more on the teams behind us who need to win to close the gap. Obviously we have the pressure to keep on winning and keep the gap at seven points, but we can be confident as well”.

“We have a tough month with Manchester United away, Southampton at home, they are always a good side, and Everton away, they are knocking on the door to be at the top, they are difficult games but those games are good for us as well”.

Then he added: “We have to see game by game, we have to hope we don’t give it away and I strongly believe we won’t, but we cannot relax”.

“We have to work hard and do the same work we have been doing for the past six or seven months and if we do that, we can achieve it, but if we think we will win games easily without doing the work we have been doing you can lose points and there will be more pressure. If we keep doing what we are doing we will be fine”.

Thibaut Courtois reveals that Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is helping his squad to stay hungry and focused during this title race.

The Belgian keeper explained how the Italian manager works on them during the week:

“A lot of players have the will to win, but sometimes if winning becomes a habit, the hunger might drop and you will lose some games,” Courtois said.

But it’s always nice to have a manager who keeps the players at the level they need to have, who keeps our focus and doesn’t allow us to drop our guard.”

Courtois also urged his side not become apprehensive as they edge ever closer to the finish line.

“To win the title, we just have to do the same as we have done over the last few months. We have to stay calm, whatever happens.

“We just have to keep our winning mentality and fight until the end.”
