Tiémoué Bakayoko

Writing on Chelsea‘s official website, Blues legend Pat Nevin praises new signing Tiemoué Bakayoko, saying he is not only as good as Nemanja Matic, who he replaced at Stamford Bridge, but he is also better than the Serbian midfielder for another important aspect:

“Nemanja Matic has gone and has made a fine start at United, so well done him. He did a great job for this club and we are grateful for that,” – Nevin wrote – “Many were quick to suggest it was a mistake to let him go, but if Tiemoue is as good, he is also crucially six years younger and that counts for a great deal when you are building a squad.”

Thibaut Courtois produced a solid performance yesterday vs Tottenham and the Blues fans had the chance to appreciate the Belgian goalkeeper also off the field when, at the end of the match he gave his shirt to a young boy sitting in the away end.

Then Courtois himself spoke about the game and the season for Chelsea

We played with some different players against Tottenham than we had when we won the League in May”. – Courtois said – “Eden still has to come back, Bakayoko played his first game, so physically he is not at this best but it was a very good game to start for him. We will try to work hard and maybe after the international break we will know what our full squad is. We can build on that, play an amazing year and win trophies by the end of the season.”

SkySports pundit Jamie Redknapp believes Chelsea midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko made a positive debut “considering he’s not had a pre-season” with the Blues.

“I thought he did very well – Harry Redknapp’s son said after the game – It’s been difficult because there has been so many comparisons with Nemanja Matic and the importance that he had at Chelsea”.

“Obviously he’s not there now and I’m sure he was a bit nervous about that. I thought today he was very composed, he was powerful, completely different to Nemanja Matic, who for example does not have the power to pick the ball up in these areas and run 40-50 yards”.

Putting in a good word for the Frenchman, Redknapp added: “Bakayoko is a midfield powerhouse, he worked extremely hard today, he had a different role to what he will probably have in some games because Chelsea played with a diamond.

“I think Chelsea have got a good player here, make no mistake about it, 23 years of age and I think in a few years to come he will only get better.”

Antonio Conte reveals Tiemoué Bakayoko can make his official debut with Chelsea next Sunday.

The French midfielder was recovering from a knee injury when he signed for the club one month ago and he proved he can perform in a friendly game against QPR arranged last Wednesday to test his and Eden Hazard’s condition before Spurs clash:

“Bakayoko is improving very well.

“He is not at the top physical condition but I think he could be in contention for the game.

“The situation is not easy in this moment. At this moment I don’t have other midfielders available. I have to make a difficult decision, but Bakayoko could be in contention for the game against Tottenham, why not.”

Regarding Pedro and Eden Hazard, both recovering from ankle injuries, the Blues boss revealed:

Hazard is improving but to be fully fit he needs time. We must have patience with him and try to do the best for him. At the moment some players are not 100 per cent fit.

Morata also is another player who needs to continue to work and improve and find the right physical condition.

“My only worry is when you try to put the players back very early, the risk of getting an injury is high. This is my worry. The physical condition could not be 100 per cent but we have to face this situation.

“About Pedro, today he trained with us and he felt pain in his ankle. I don’t know about him. His situation is very difficult. I don’t know if he is available for the bench on Sunday.”

Chelsea will miss also Cesc Fabregas and Gary Cahill against Tottenham, both suspended after their red card against Burnley in Premier League first game of the season.

During today’s press conference ahead of Tottenham’s game at Wembley next Sunday Chelsea manager Antonio Conte hinted he was not pleased to let youngsters as Nathaniel Chalobah and Ruben Loftus-Cheek go.

The first one completed a permanent move to Watford, the second one is on loan at Crystal Palace.

With Gary Cahill and Cesc Fabregas suspension, Eden Hazard and Tiemoué Bakayoko not ready yet for official games, Chalobah and Loftus-Cheek could have been useful in Spurs clash.

When he was asked if he regretted their departures, Conte bluntly responded: ‘

“Another question, please.”

Pressed on whether he would be more open to giving young players a chance this season, he added:

“If you remember last season I utilised different young players.

“Don’t forget Ake, Chalobah and Loftus-Cheek. And also Kenedy and Aina as well. I think for a club like Chelsea if I have the opportunity to have players ready to play I’m the first person to be happy.

“But I repeat the players need to grow in the right way or you risk damage to them and the club.”

Eden Hazard and Tiemoué Bakayoko were back in action in a friendly game against QPR played arranged at Cobham today to test their fitness.

Chelsea won 8-0 and Hazard even scored a goal but it’ s unlikely either of them will play any part in the match against Tottenham at Wembley on Sunday.

The Belgian star is in the ending part of his broken ankle recovery, while the new French signing was recovering from a knee surgery he underwent in May.

A good boost for Antonio Conte and Chelsea in this start of a season that began in a negative way, with two defeats in the first two official games.

New Chelsea signing Tiemoué Bakayoko, who can be included in squad for Spurs after being back in group training, claims he is looking forward to play along with N’Golo Kantè, who was PFA Player of the Year last season:

“N’Golo Kante has proved it all,” Bakayoko told Chelsea Magazine.

“He was the best player in the Premier League last season in the middle of the pitch and that is not easy.

“To play alongside him would be something very good for me and it can help me progress.

“I’ve played a match with him for the French national team so we know each other very well and I hope we can do beautiful things together this year.”

Eden Hazard and Tiemoué Bakayoko are back in training.

The two Chelsea players are recovering from serious injuries and missed the first two official games of the season, both defeats for the Blues: the one with Arsenal in the Community Shield and the Premier League debut with Burnley.

Antonio Conte ruled out both of them for Spurs game next weekend  but the pair was seen training with the rest of the squad in Cobham yesterday.

It’s possible they are not ready to play yet but to test their capacity to perform in a match, a special friendly game was arragend for tomorrow in Cobham: it will be the first time that Eden will be able to play since breaking his ankle in June, as well as Bakayoko since undergoing a knee surgery last May.

Should they show to be ready, they will be included in the Chelsea squad for Tottenham clash at Wembley next Sunday.

The Italian coach confirmed the Spanish striker is not fit to face Burnley in the first league clash at Stamford Bridge tomorrow:

Pedro is not available because he is suffering with an injury from the Arsenal game and he wasn’t able to recover, it’s a knock on his ankle,” said the Blues boss in a press conference to preview the match.

Not only the Community Shield: Antonio Conte spoke also about Chelsea transfer market in the press conference ahead of Arsenal clash.

The Italian manager can already work with four new signings: Willy Caballero, Antonio Rudiger, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Alvaro Morata – that all joined Chelsea in the last month, but he claims that the Blues still need another player to revamp his squad:

“For us it’s very important to improve our squad in terms of the numerical aspect because we have a small squad,” said Conte thinking also about the Champions League.

“Only one player is not enough to improve our team, we need more.

“The best way is to try to find the right solution. It’s important the club know my opinion about the number we need. They are trying to do the best for our team and our squad. Now we have to wait and have patience to improve our squad.”
