After Chelsea‘s loss to Tottenham and ahead of tomorrow Europa League game vs PAOK, the Blues manager Maurizio Sarri has explained he didn’t like the way N’Golo Kante played on Saturday at Wembley:

Kante in the last match wanted to solve the match after the first 15 minutes, but in the wrong way”. Sarri said. “He lost the position, he attacked too much the other box. And I think this one is not one of the best characteristics of Kante. It was only a reaction to the difficulties.”

Also, Sarri said he wants other players to play as centre midfielder: “I want to play as a centre midfielder with a very technical player. For me the centre midfielder is Jorginho or (Cesc) Fabregas”. the Italian manager claimed. “I don’t want Kante in this position”.

Chelsea midfielder Jorginho has tried to explain the reasons which led to the Blues’ defeat in the Premier League game vs Tottenham on Saturday.

Our team was not as compact as it always is. The first pressure wasn’t being made, I believe it wasn’t being made”. Jorginho told ESPN Brazil. “So the defensive line ended up going down a lot and our team got very stretched.”

Also the Italian midfielder claimed the team have a lot to do if they want to have a real chance in the title race: “From the beginning, when you have City in the competition, it’s already difficult”. Jorginho explained. “But I don’t think we have to look ahead. We have to look at today, now, because there is much to improve, a lot to change.”

Speaking to Chelsea‘s official website, the Blues defender David Luiz admitted Maurizio Sarri‘s team’s performance was pretty poor on Saturday at Wembley vs Tottenham.

I think we’ve done great up until Saturday, it wasn’t a great night for us,” the defender said. “We didn’t play well, Tottenham played well. We must have the humility to recognise that and say they controlled the game. It wasn’t good, like we’ve been doing all season, in all aspects; defensive, offensive, we didn’t have possession, we didn’t create a lot. We weren’t in the game and that’s why we lost”.

The good thing is that Chelsa will play on Thursday night vs PAOK in an Europa League game and so the Blues will have the chance the bounce back immediately.

We are not happy. It was a big derby, our fans were there and tried to help us so we are sorry for them because we didn’t play a great game. They always support us, they go everywhere and do a great job. Now we have the opportunity to play at home, try to win games and come back in a positive way like we’ve been doing since the beginning of the season”. David Luiz went on. “It’s good for us to understand and be reminded that in the Premier League it’s never easy to win a game. We didn’t play well. We played really badly, we didn’t have the same intensity as in other games. The good thing is that next week we have another game so we have an opportunity to try to get some points”.

Despite Tottenham’s domination in yesterday’s derby at Wembley, Chelsea felt they could have had two penalties in the first half, with Hazard on the end of some risky challenges.

Blues star Eden Hazard believes the first incident, where he went to ground after a challenge from Juan Foyth, was a definitely penalty, but says his side can have no excuses after “a bad game”.

“I think the first one is a penalty,” Hazard told Chelsea‘s official website.

“It is the decision of the referee – sometimes right, sometimes not – but I can’t blame him, it is part of the game and I don’t want to find an excuse, I think we played a bad game.

“It was not just about the penalty, I think the whole team did badly. They have top players and are a good team, which we saw last year at Stamford Bridge. We were a bit down, but we need to get back on the pitch, train hard and win games again.”

The Belgian believes the Blues paid the price for a slow start against Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

It’s a result that has seen Spurs leapfrog Chelsea into third place in the Premier League table, making this their best start to a Premier League season since 2011-12.

“We didn’t play a good game and everybody could see that,” Hazard added.

“We started the game very badly and conceded two goals early.

“Against this kind of team, when you are 2-0 down, it is hard to come back. We tried but it was not enough.

“It is hard to start a game after 15 minutes when we have conceded two goals.

“We tried, but then we pushed and conceded another one at the start of the second half.

“We had a bad game and we just need to forget about this and move forward.

“We need to analyse everything and then maybe talk together, and try to win again.”

Chelsea failed to extend their unbeaten as Spurs widely dominated the Premier League clash against the Blues at Wembley Stadium earlier this evening.

Early goals from Dele Alli and Harry Kane were enough to tangle up Maurizio Sarri’s plan, as well as Heung-min Son’s stunning 3-0 put the game beyond doubt in the second half, with more than half an hour left to be played.

Ross Barkley, Pedro and Olivier Giroud came off the bench replacing Kovacic, Willian and Alvaro Morata. A late consolation goal by the French striker is not enough as Tottenham Hotspurs jumped above Chelsea into 3rd place.

After facing PAOK at home on Thursday night, the Blues will host Fulham and former club’s boss Claudio Ranieri and will try to get back to winning ways to restore their position in the Premier League table.

In his pre-game press conference ahead of tomorrow’s Premier League game vs Tottenham, the Blues’ manager Maurizio Sarri admitted he and his players spoke about the problems they had in the last games of this season.

I think it is a mental problem. In the last three matches we had a problem with the approach of the match. But not only. We have to be careful and be focused on this problem”. Sarri explained. “For sure it is not a physical problem, we have some difficulties. It is not a tactical problem. In the last 15 minutes of three matches the opposition was more determined than us, we have to approach the match in a different way”.

The Italian manager, then confirmed Mateo Kovacic is fit and he can play tomorrow: “No big problems. As usual after international break there are some issues, a little tired, but fortunately no big problems. Kovacic is doing better” Sarri revealed. “He had an ankle problem, he has been doing all the training. I think he will be able to play”.

A win at Wembley in the London derby will boost Chelsea ambitions to win the Premier League title, but Maurizio Sarri believes this will be a very difficult task because at the moment Manchester City are still better than Chelsea: “They are stronger than us and we have to work hard to cover the gap, but it is still there”. Sarri admitted. “We have to do it [cover the gap], we can recover but in the first season I don’t think we can recover 30 points”.

Chelsea are still Premier League leaders courtesy of their a third win in a row against Newcastle United at St.James’ Park. Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Watford are walking the same path of Blues, level on points at the top of the table.

LIVERPOOL 1-0 BRIGHTON (Mo Salah 23′)

WATFORD 2-1 CRYSTAL PALACE (Pereyra 53′ Holebas 71′ Zaha 78′)

MANCHESTER UNITED 0-3 TOTTENHAM HOTSPURS (Kane 50′ Lucas Moura 52′ 84′)

A goal from former Chelsea star Mo Salah secured a narrow victory over Brighton Hove&Albion. The Hornets broke a long-term record as they had never won three consecutive Premier League games in a start to the season. Spurs trashed Manchester United at Old Trafford, which means José Mourinho is currently 6 points behind Chelsea.

In the middle of the table we find Arsenal as Unai Emery’s men cruised to a convincing win against London rivals West Ham United, despite the Hammers broke the deadlock earlier in the first half. Aleksandr Mitrovic scored for Fulham as the Cottagers really can start enjoying their return to English top-flight division with a much-needed 4-2 win at home.

Maurizio Sarri will face Bournemouth on Saturday. The Cherries are currently level on points with Man City following their 2-2 against Everton (Richarlison was shown a red card and sent off for an attempted headbutt. The Citizens failed to get a win too, as Wolverhampton deservedly sealed a vital point at the Molineux.

Tomorrow night, France and Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud will try to score his first World Cup‘s goal and help the Blues to reach the final.

However, Giroud himself knows it won’t be easy as the Belgium goalkeeper is his club’s team-mate Thibaut Courtois: Thibaut has an impressive wingspan. It’s hard to beat him on the sides. He can stop balls in any area. Giroud told beIn Sports. “I have scored a few goals against him in training with Chelsea and I hope I can do it on Tuesday”.

Then Giroud went on comparing Courtois with France and Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris: “They’re both great keepers”. the striker explained. “And they both deserve to be elected as best keeper of the tournament, even if I have a preference for Hugo. The best is Hugo. Sorry Thibaut”.
