French striker Olivier Giroud is happy Chelsea will face Liverpool in the Carabao Cup after their Premier League goalless draw vs West Ham.

They will provide a real test of how good we are,” Giroud told the Evening Standard. “We need to show team character after the West Ham game, so there is nothing better than to play the team at the top of the League. It will be a good test”.

Giroud is also aware the Blues’ boss Maurizio Sarri will make some rotations for the Cup’s game at Anfield, but this won’t weaken the team: “The coach will obviously make some changes for the League Cup tie, but we have many players with quality and we have a good team”. Giroud explained. “We want to be strong and show them that it won’t be easy for them at Anfield. We want to keep the confidence high and come back to London with good momentum and start a winning run again.”

Maurizio Sarri revealed Antonio Rudiger may not feature against Liverpool in next Wednesday clash at Anfield after the German international defender was injured in the draw against West Ham today and the Italian manager admits he is wary of Liverpool’s much-vaunted front three:

“Against Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane? I think it is impossible,” he added.

“It will be really a very difficult match. Maybe a spectacular match but, for us, very difficult I think.”

Continuing to speak about the clash with the Reds, Sarri said:

“[Liverpool] have played yesterday and have one day’s more rest than us.

“I don’t know. I want to see the picture of the situation tomorrow morning during the training session. Now, really, I don’t know. Maybe I will have to change 11 players, maybe only five. At this moment, I don’t know.”

Cesar Azpilicueta, who already won two Premier League titles with Chelsea, reckons the Blues they must try to challenge Liverpool and Manchester City to win the league this season.

“We are the team that have won more titles in recent years in England,” the defender told reporters in the mixed zone postmatch.

“It is true that in the last four years, we haven’t done it well in the season after winning the title.

“But after we didn’t qualify for the Champions League [last season], it is clear that now the target is to be competitive again in the Premier League, to be as close as possible to the title and try to fight for it.”

Blues manager Maurizio Sarri claims Chelsea are a year behind their Premier League rivals in the title race: Manchester City and Liverpool.

Despite a very good start, where the Italian boss won all the league games until today, Sarri doesn’t think is team can compete for the title glory:

Liverpool are a step forward of us at this moment.

“We have to play against a very, very good team who have worked with the same coach for three years.

“We have started to work together 35, 40 days ago. Less if you include the international breaks. So for us it’s a bit early,” Sarri said.

We have to work, we need to improve, and maybe in one year we will be on that level.”

Continuing to speak about today’s game, he said:

“I don’t know where you take the statistics of the match but, in my statistics, we had seven opportunities against their three. So I don’t know.

“I knew that West Ham are a very good team. I don’t know why they lost their first four matches in the league, but they are really a very good team. Maybe now [they are] in confidence after they won away against Everton.

“Maybe we could have done better in the last 25 minutes of the first half. Then, I think that we have played very well… well in the second half, generally, but very well in the last 25 minutes. It’s impossible to win every match. So it’s OK, one point, for today.”

“They were cutting out very well every pass for Giroud, so we needed two wingers, I think. Hazard in the last 25 minutes did very well, more on the right than the left, but it was very difficult for the striker and the two wingers.”

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri doesn’t blame Europa League clash in Greece, where the Blues had to stay even one day more for a travel disruption, for his team draw at West Ham today:

“It’s very difficult to play in the Europa League, but more difficult in March and April, not now.

“I said only that I don’t know why, in England, after an away match in the Europa League [we do not] play in the Premier League on the Monday night.

“In Italy, it’s possible. Here I have to play 64 hours after a Europa League match. In this period, it’s not a big problem. In April, maybe.

“It’s impossible to win every match. So it’s okay, one point, for today.”

The Blues’ winning streak comes to an end following a goalless draw in the London derby between West Ham United and Chelsea at Olympic Stadium. Chelsea saw plenty of the ball possession in the first half, when keeper Kepa was crucial as he saved a powerful effort delivered from Antonio. Hazard, Rudiger and Giroud had three chances, with Fabianski ready to collect with no concern.

Alvaro Morata and the Belgian star went close to opening the score in the second period, before West Ham winger Yarmolenko missed a certain goal as his header from a seven-yards out went wide. Also Hammers’ goalkeeper Fabianski produced more than a great save to deny Chelsea’s advantage. The Poland international spreads himself when Ross Barkley – who came off the bench in the second half to replace Mateo Kovacic – whipped the ball into the bottom corner.

Chelsea fail to get a win for the first time in their first six Premier League games of the 2018/19 campaign. Liverpool are now top of the table with 18 points, just 2 ahead of the Blues and Man City.

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has backed colleague Manuel Pellegrini and next rivals West Ham United, who managed to pick up their first points of Premier League season only last time out as they got the upper hand against Everton at Goodison Park (goals from Yarmolenko and Arnautovic).

The Italian manager, speaking ahead of today’s London derby, said: “I have seen the five matches of West Ham in the Premier League, and I think they have been unlucky,

They changed in the last match against Everton from 4-2-3-1 to 4-1-4-1 and they played very well. Their position in the table is not a realistic one”.

About Chelsea’s positive start so far, Sarri added: “I am surprised because in Naples the beginning was very difficult, the first month

Here at the moment I am very happy with the situation, with the players, with the club. But I know the Premier League is a very competitive competition so I know in the future I will have to face some difficulties”.

Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic spoke out ahed of London derby against West Ham United (kick-off time: 1.30PM) and was full of praise when asked to provide a commment on teammate Eden Hazard, who’s scored 5 goals from 5 Premier League games so far.

The Croatian midfielder told Chelsea’s official website: ‘For me he has everything, but the thing that has impressed me the most is that they tackle him so much and he is always on his feet,

England is a really tough league, the toughest in the world for me, and he just plays with the defenders. He’s an incredible player but also a nice team-mate, a nice guy, and I have really enjoyed the time playing with him.

When I came here I didn’t realise he was so good. He is one of the best players I have played with. The stuff he is doing is amazing; he is helping the team a lot and I hope he will continue like that, or do even better because I think he can do better for sure”.
