West Ham

Chelsea‘s youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi, speaking with Chelsea Tv admitted he watched his team-mate Eden Hazard in awe as he scored his first goal vs West Ham on Monday night at Stamford Bridge.

All I can say is that I watched the whole thing with my mouth wide open,” the England international said. “He’s an exceptional player, though, and I do expect things like that from him. I just watch and learn from him in training, and then in games. Watching someone like that, he is a superb role model to look up to.”

Hazard goal, and his second in the second-half were not only beautiful, but also very important in the Blues’ race for a top-four spot in the Premier League table. “The three points were absolutely crucial,” Hudson-Odoi told Chelsea TV. “A couple of other teams dropped points so we needed to get the result, and we did and we did it in the right manner as well. Our mentality was strong, we worked hard throughout the game, and we had to stay patient because they stayed very compact. So we just had to keep working, and getting our way through and trying to keep moving the ball, and I felt we did that well.”

Eden Hazard is reportedly one Real Madrid‘s top targets for next summer transfer window and with just a year left on his contract, Chelsea could be forced to sell him or risk losing their star player for free next year.

The Belgium international was at his brilliant best on Monday evening as he scored twice, including one sublime solo effort, to secure Chelsea’s 2-0 victory over West Ham.

During the match, Hammers’ supporters were taunting their Chelsea rivals by singing ‘he’s off to Madrid’.

But when asked about the chants after the game, Hazard told Sky Sports:

“They are wrong. For now I am just focusing on Chelsea until the end of the season.

“I want to finish top four and Europa League, we still have a lot to do and then we will see.

“We are in good momentum. We have won three in a row. For the mentality, it is good to keep going.

“Top four and the Europa League is our target so we need to do well in both but we can do it.”

Speaking about his sublime solo goal, Hazard said:

“It was something special: I took the ball and then I tried to move forward. In the box it was hard for the defender to challenge me because if he touches me it could be a penalty.

“I was maybe a little lucky with the shot. I wanted to shoot quickly.

“When I saw the ball in the net I was just so happy. I am small so it is good when I play against tall players as it’s very hard for them to change direction.”

Chelsea win 2-0 against West Ham in the Monday night match and goes up to the third place in the table.

Eden Hazard was the man who gave the Blues the 3 points with a fantastic brace: the Blues now sit third in the Premier League table with 66 points, two more than Spurs ( 64, 4th) and three more than Arsenal ( 63, 5th) who have a game in hand, anyway.

Chelsea dominated the ball in the opening period, but had to wait until the 24th minute to cut West Ham open thanks to some Hazard brilliance.

In the end of the first half Gonzalo Higuain could score the second one for Chelsea after another Hazard superb playing but he hit the post.

West Ham had a couple of chances to equalise in the second part but Hazard sealed the game at 90′ with a half-volley on Barkley‘s cross.

Next game is at Anfield with leaders Liverpool on Sunday evening.

French striker Olivier Giroud is happy Chelsea will face Liverpool in the Carabao Cup after their Premier League goalless draw vs West Ham.

They will provide a real test of how good we are,” Giroud told the Evening Standard. “We need to show team character after the West Ham game, so there is nothing better than to play the team at the top of the League. It will be a good test”.

Giroud is also aware the Blues’ boss Maurizio Sarri will make some rotations for the Cup’s game at Anfield, but this won’t weaken the team: “The coach will obviously make some changes for the League Cup tie, but we have many players with quality and we have a good team”. Giroud explained. “We want to be strong and show them that it won’t be easy for them at Anfield. We want to keep the confidence high and come back to London with good momentum and start a winning run again.”

Maurizio Sarri revealed Antonio Rudiger may not feature against Liverpool in next Wednesday clash at Anfield after the German international defender was injured in the draw against West Ham today and the Italian manager admits he is wary of Liverpool’s much-vaunted front three:

“Against Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane? I think it is impossible,” he added.

“It will be really a very difficult match. Maybe a spectacular match but, for us, very difficult I think.”

Continuing to speak about the clash with the Reds, Sarri said:

“[Liverpool] have played yesterday and have one day’s more rest than us.

“I don’t know. I want to see the picture of the situation tomorrow morning during the training session. Now, really, I don’t know. Maybe I will have to change 11 players, maybe only five. At this moment, I don’t know.”

Cesar Azpilicueta, who already won two Premier League titles with Chelsea, reckons the Blues they must try to challenge Liverpool and Manchester City to win the league this season.

“We are the team that have won more titles in recent years in England,” the defender told reporters in the mixed zone postmatch.

“It is true that in the last four years, we haven’t done it well in the season after winning the title.

“But after we didn’t qualify for the Champions League [last season], it is clear that now the target is to be competitive again in the Premier League, to be as close as possible to the title and try to fight for it.”

Blues manager Maurizio Sarri claims Chelsea are a year behind their Premier League rivals in the title race: Manchester City and Liverpool.

Despite a very good start, where the Italian boss won all the league games until today, Sarri doesn’t think is team can compete for the title glory:

Liverpool are a step forward of us at this moment.

“We have to play against a very, very good team who have worked with the same coach for three years.

“We have started to work together 35, 40 days ago. Less if you include the international breaks. So for us it’s a bit early,” Sarri said.

We have to work, we need to improve, and maybe in one year we will be on that level.”

Continuing to speak about today’s game, he said:

“I don’t know where you take the statistics of the match but, in my statistics, we had seven opportunities against their three. So I don’t know.

“I knew that West Ham are a very good team. I don’t know why they lost their first four matches in the league, but they are really a very good team. Maybe now [they are] in confidence after they won away against Everton.

“Maybe we could have done better in the last 25 minutes of the first half. Then, I think that we have played very well… well in the second half, generally, but very well in the last 25 minutes. It’s impossible to win every match. So it’s OK, one point, for today.”

“They were cutting out very well every pass for Giroud, so we needed two wingers, I think. Hazard in the last 25 minutes did very well, more on the right than the left, but it was very difficult for the striker and the two wingers.”

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri doesn’t blame Europa League clash in Greece, where the Blues had to stay even one day more for a travel disruption, for his team draw at West Ham today:

“It’s very difficult to play in the Europa League, but more difficult in March and April, not now.

“I said only that I don’t know why, in England, after an away match in the Europa League [we do not] play in the Premier League on the Monday night.

“In Italy, it’s possible. Here I have to play 64 hours after a Europa League match. In this period, it’s not a big problem. In April, maybe.

“It’s impossible to win every match. So it’s okay, one point, for today.”

The Blues’ winning streak comes to an end following a goalless draw in the London derby between West Ham United and Chelsea at Olympic Stadium. Chelsea saw plenty of the ball possession in the first half, when keeper Kepa was crucial as he saved a powerful effort delivered from Antonio. Hazard, Rudiger and Giroud had three chances, with Fabianski ready to collect with no concern.

Alvaro Morata and the Belgian star went close to opening the score in the second period, before West Ham winger Yarmolenko missed a certain goal as his header from a seven-yards out went wide. Also Hammers’ goalkeeper Fabianski produced more than a great save to deny Chelsea’s advantage. The Poland international spreads himself when Ross Barkley – who came off the bench in the second half to replace Mateo Kovacic – whipped the ball into the bottom corner.

Chelsea fail to get a win for the first time in their first six Premier League games of the 2018/19 campaign. Liverpool are now top of the table with 18 points, just 2 ahead of the Blues and Man City.
