Chelsea's Brazilian midfielder Willian (L) celebrates with Chelsea's Belgian midfielder Eden Hazard (C) after scoring during the English Premier League football match between Huddersfield Town and Chelsea at the John Smith's stadium in Huddersfield, northern England on December 12,

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte explained reasons behind his decision to take off Willian and Tiemoue Bakayoko earlier in the second half. The Spanish winger scored a vital goal in yesterday’s 1-2 win over the Foxes at King Power Stadium.

About Willian, Conte said: “He was very tired, he played a fantastic game with and without the game. He is in a fantastic physical condition. I am very pleased with him, but we decided to take this decision”.

“The same for [Andreas] Christensen. After the Barcelona game we spent a lot of energy and played 120 minutes tonight.”

And about Bakayoko: “Baka got a yellow card, and we are talking about a player with great physicality. In a game like this, you have to prevent a second yellow card. For this reason, I decided to change him.”

Reports in Italy this morning claim Antonio Conte is not going to include Alvaro Morata in Chelsea’s starting XI against Barcelona tonight.

The Spaniard had a stunning start to the season but his performances have been declining over the last few months. The former Juventus star has had physical issues as well and Conte is not going to start him against the Catalans tonight.

According to Tuttosport Conte will pick up the likes of Pedro, Willian and Hazard to play up front with the Belgian ace who is expected to play as ‘false 9’ as in the game at Stamford Bridge in February.

Chelsea will have to score one more goal then their rivals or obtain a draw with 2 goals or more to go through the next round, as the first leg played in London three weeks ago ended with a 1-1 draw.

Barcelona (4-3-3): Ter Stegen; Sergi Roberto, Pique, Umtiti, Jordi Alba; Rakitic, Busquets, Iniesta; Paulinho, Suarez, Messi.

Chelsea (3-4-3): Courtois; Rudiger, Azpilicueta, Christensen; Moses, Fabregas, Kante, Marcos Alonso; Pedro, Hazard, Willian.

Chelsea star Willian, surely the Blues best man in this period, spoke ahead of tonight crucial Champions League clash at Camp Nou:

“Firstly it was good to get back to winning ways and it gives us confidence for the game against Barcelona,” the Brazilian winger said.

“In football, when you win you always get confidence for the next game. Now we have confidence to go there and do a job.

“Playing against Barcelona is never easy. The pitch there is big and we expect a difficult game but I think if we play the same way as we did in the game at Stamford Bridge we can go through.”

Speaking about game tactics and plan he said:

“We have to stay compact and fight together without the ball because Barcelona, in every game, have a lot of possession”

“In this game, when we have the ball we have to be more clinical. We can’t afford to make any mistakes with our final pass and we have to be decisive in front of goal by shooting or doing what we want to do. If we go into the game with this mentality I think we can do something special.”

And speaking about himself he claimed:

“Everyone knows my best qualities are with the ball, not without it.”

“But I try to help the team and work hard. I’m not a specialist in that area but I try.

“When I go on the pitch I always try to do my best and in some games I have the opportunity to shoot more, in others not so much, but in the last few games I’ve created a lot of chances and I think my performances have been good.

“I want to play better and better, to help my team-mates and help the club. I want to win titles. I think we can do something special between now and the end of the season.

“We have the Champions League and FA Cup, and we can reach the top four in the Premier League. We have some targets to reach so that’s why I want to always do my best.

“I’ve had a lot of good moments in my career and this one, right now, is a special one. I’m very happy with my form.”

Speaking during the pre-game press conference ahead of tomorrow’s Champions League game vs Barcelona at Camp NouWillian has revealed he and his team-mates have one additional reason to perform at their best.

For sure this is a fantastic stadium with a big pitch. I think that every single player needs to play this type of game must be excited, to play this type of game. Willian said. “A lot of my players have never played in this stadium. This is the first time and we want to do our best.”

In the press conference with the media ahead of tomorrow’s night Champions League game vs Chelsea, Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets said the Spanish side’s task against the Blues will be difficult, but they will try to qualify for the next round using their classical style of play.

It is going to be a hard match, this is the Champions League. We are playing against a very good team with a defensive play. We will try to get the ball, they are well prepared and it will be hard”. Busquets said. “We will try to play hard to get the win, but 0-0 could be a good result. If they score we could be really suffering for that. Chelsea has lots of resources to do what they do and play compact at the back. They are also good on the offense and counter attack. They are going to have this plan then they will do one thing or the other. We will try to be clever and not speculating. 0-0 is a good result, but we shouldn’t speculate”.

And then, when asked about Willian, the Catalan midfielder went on: “We have to pay special attention to him, but Morata, Pedro or Hazard. They have specific attack profiles. They are a good team”.

Olivier Giroud has got a positive feeling about the upcoming Champions League clash against Barcelona, where Chelsea will have to play the perfect game to try to go through the next round:

“We basically had nine finals to win, we’ve won the first one but now we put the Premier League on the side and we have to focus on Barcelona, the French striker said after yesterday win over Palace.

“I think we have a good chance to go through if we stick together with solidarity. We know it will be tough but I believe in the quality of this team.”

Speaking of his first weeks as a Chelsea player, Giroud claimed:

“I think I’m adapting well, I try to have a good understanding on the pitch with the number 10s like Eden and Willian.

Chelsea winger Willan reckons Crystal Palace “created some problems” to the Blues, despite a brilliant performance from the Brazilian star secured a 2-1 win at Stamford Bridge for the Premier League champions.

Willian told Chelsea’s official website: “Anyway, we did a good job. It’s always a good feeling to be back winning after some not good results. We played very well; we could have scored more goals and the result could have been 4-1 or 5-1. In the Premier League you have to kill the game, otherwise you have problems, but we deserved the three points”.

‘I’m happy with my performance and my form,’ he added. ‘I hope to continue like this, but the most important thing is to win the games. We have to carry on in this way. We cannot go down any more – we have to stay high”.

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte was full of praise when asked to provide a comment on Willian, Eden Hazard and Olivier Giroud’s performances against Crystal Palace this evening.

On Willian, he claimed: “I think Willian is playing in a fantastic way. But I want to underline not just with the ball, but without it. He is working very hard and helping the team without it. I hope to see him in this level, to continue this performance as he is playing well off and on the ball. It is important to have the balance”.

On Hazard: “He played a good game and also had chances to score. We didn’t take a lot of chances that we created today. The commitment was good and for this reason we must be very happy. For Barcelona we have to prepare in the right way. This will be completely different to today”.

On Giroud: “Olivier like other players, many players had chances to score. We must be pleased for his comittment. He hit the post and in the first half the defender cleared a chance. He was a bit unlucky but we must be pleased”.

One of the positive things in Chelsea‘s success for 2-1 against Crystal Palace tonight is the 3 points, because the Blues won after two straight defeats in Manchester but weren’t really able to control the game and almost allowed the Eagles to come back in the end of the game.

Surely the man of the match was Willian, 12 goals and 5 assists in the last 18 games, that scored the opener and was in all the dangerous chances created by the Blues.

The Brazilian scored the opener at 25′ and after seven minutes Martin Kelly deflected the ball in his own goal after a rebound in the middle of the small box after Zappacosta shot from the right.

In the beginning of the second half Sorloth hit the post after a bad clearance from Christensen and Palace looked sharper with Wilfred Zaha back in action after recovering from an injury.

Olivier Giroud missed a good chance at 67′ and after five minutes was replaced by Alvaro Morata.

Sorloth scored at 86′ but referee Anthony Taylor disallowed the goal for a foul on Gary Cahill that was non existent.

At 90′ Patrick van Aanholt scored the 2-1 for the Eagles and, despite trying it with all their efforts until the last second, they weren’t able to finalise their comeback.

A worrying sign just three days before the second leg clash against Barcelona the Camp Nou: there Chelsea won’t have to lose concentration not even for a minute.

Willian has been Chelsea main man again in this first half against Crystal Palace: the Brazilian scored the opener at 25′ with a low shot from the box limit.

An own goal by Martin Kelly fixed the score on 2-0 at 32′, with the defender netting the ball in a rebound after a shot by Zappacosta.

Everything seems smooth for Chelsea at the moment, only 45′ separate them to get the first 3 points of the last month in the Premier League.

In the last few days Petr Cech not only expressed his frustation on how goalkeepers are selected to play games in different competition at Arsenal, but...
