After a dismal season comes to a close and without the Blues securing Champions League football some of Chelsea’s star men have been heavily linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge.
But one player that needs to be kept at Stamford Bridge, is Diego Costa. After a poor start to the season the Brazilian born Spaniard has led the charge since Hiddink’s appointment. He has gone on to score 15 goals in 37 games.
But more then that, he has looked like the player to make things happen for Chelsea when they really need it. Against PSG just a few weeks back, before he went off injured the Blues really looked in the game, he took the fight to them and the fans really believed. But when he went off, it deflated everyone. He scored the last gasp equaliser against Manchester United and got the winner against Norwich and Arsenal in recent weeks.
With top quality centre forwards so difficult to come by nowadays (just look at Arsenal) it is vital Chelsea keep hold of him and most importantly, keep him motivated without Champions League football. The fans adore him when he’s on form, showing the passion and tenacity that very few players do.
It looks as though Hazard could well be on his way out as does John Terry, but with Diego Costa being the spearhead in attack, players follow him, he’s one of the few leaders in the team along with Cesc Fabregas. And these two must be kept for the Blues to have any hope of getting back in to the Champions League next season.
Costa has netted 36 goals since his move to England in 2014 and will continue in that way. If Chelsea keep him fit and happy they will be in the Champions League next season.
