Taylor: “We are not just going to sit off and let them play”

Newcastle defender Steven Taylor spoke ahead of Saturday’s clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The Magpies player claimed his side will go to London to try to get points.

Newcastle are struggling at the bottom of the table, but since also Chelsea dropped many points in this Premier League, the two teams are not so far as the Magpies got 24 points – they should be the first team to not relegate if the league ends now- and the Blues 30, just 6 points ahead of them:

“Away to Chelsea we’ll be going there as underdogs and it will be a tough game,” he said speaking to NUFC TV.

“But we will be taking the game to Chelsea, we are not just going to sit off and let them play.

“We have to get after them, we need the points and we are desperate for three points, for us a point isn’t what we are going to be after.

“They (Chelsea) just haven’t got the results early on and that is why they have found themselves in the same situation as us.

“With Chelsea and ourselves we both want to be in the top half and getting into Europe – that was our aim at the start of the season but in football things happen and that is what you have to adjust to.

“We are looking very good on the wings, with Andros now and Moussa, we have got that threat with Jonjo Shelvey – he is like a quarterback for us – drilling balls left, right and centre.

Mitrovic was oustanding (v West Brom), he took some battering but I tell you what, he causes mayhem for their defence…defences don’t like that and you see that in training – him against me and Colo, having great little battles – that is what we love.

“Bringing Cheicky back into the fold made a massive difference and he was like the Cheicky of old – perfect in front of the back four.”

“If John Terry is a player I look up to? Absolutely, I have got massive time for what he has done for Chelsea. He has been the leader, an absolute legend for that football club, I would be very surprised if they don’t get things sorted with him.

“It is going to be a tough game coming up against him, set-pieces at either end will be tough but I’m relishing the opportunity.

“Chelsea are going to come at us, they have got the width with Willian and Hazard, who has now come back into the fold.

“They have stopped sitting back and started attacking teams, they have the pace to do that and it is going to be tough, obviously going to have to deal with Diego Costa.”
