Arsenal defender Francis Coquelin says that he wants to emulate at Arsenal the importance of midfielder Nemanja Matic at Chelsea.
The Serbian has been a key member of the Chelsea starting XI this season, and has been consistently impressive performer for Jose Mourinho as the south London side close in on their first title since 2010.
Coquelin himself has also been impressive for the Gunners, after returning from a loan spell at Championship side Charlton Athletic. It is likely the Frenchman will come up against Matic when Arsenal clash with Chelsea at the Emirates on Saturday.
“What he’s done is unbelievable,” Coquelin told Arsenal Player.
“At Chelsea he is one of the main men so credit to him, he’s had a great season and is a great player.”
Arsenal are currently 10 points behind their London rivals in the table, and if Chelsea win on Saturday and then beat Leicester, they win the league.
However, despite the hype before the first vs. second clash, 23-year old Coquelin says that he is looking forward to testing himself against the former Benfica man, who Coquelin believes epitomises the importance of defensive midfielders.
“It’s always good to play against players like that.
“It’s an important position and Matic has shown how important he is – that’s what I’m trying to do as well for Arsenal.
“The fans want a good defensive midfielder, they know it’s important for the team.”
