Former Arsenal striker Alan Smith has said that Arsene Wenger could yet become one of the club’s greatest ever managers.
Wenger will meet with Jose Mourinho for the 15th time in the Premier League tomorrow – the Frenchman has only won one of those meetings, which came in the 1-0 Community Shield Final win at Wembley at the start of August.
The 65-year old has won 15 major trophies in his 19 years in North London, including a Premier League title and back-to-back FA Cups.
Arsenal currently sit fourth after five games in the league table thus far this season, and Smith, who made almost 350 appearances for the Gunners, thinks Wenger can still go on to great things:
“He’s going to go down as the greatest Arsenal manager ever isn’t he?,” he told Arsenal Fan TV.
“To last as long as he has in the modern day is freaky really.
“I don’t think its going to happen many times in the future and certainly not many are going to achieve the success he has.”
