Cahill: “We’re heading in the right direction”

Chelsea defender Gary Cahill believes the team are heading in the right direction under interim manager Guus Hiddink.

Cahill spoke to Chelsea’s Official website after the 5-1 win at Stadium MK.

‘Obviously the first half of the season was a disaster but we look like we’re heading in the right direction at this moment in time,’ he said.

‘It was another good performance against MK Dons, not just the result but the way we moved the ball and everything that went with it.

‘That’s what we were looking for and hoping to do a lot earlier in the season. When you get results and don’t lose games it breeds confidence and everything kind of comes back. I wouldn’t say we’re totally there yet but we’re definitely going in the right direction.

‘Against MK Dons it wasn’t Premier League opposition but I thought we did well. In the first half we had so many chances and it could have been dead and buried.

‘We’re creating more chances and getting more bodies in the box, which at the start of the season we probably weren’t doing. We look more dangerous.’

There were rumours that the centre-back could be on his way out in January. But Chelsea will now be looking to keep hold of the Champions League winner, due to the imminent departure of captain John Terry.
