Chelsea started their FA Cup 5th round clash against Manchester City as firm favourites as they look ahead to a Wednesday night Champions League clash in Kiev, the Citizens handed out debuts to five players.
With a lively start to the game, it took until the twelfth minute for the first clear cut chance as Pedro played a brilliant one-two with his Spanish team mate Cesc Fabregas to put Pedro in on goal as he tried to dink the ball over Willy Caballero but was denied, only by the post.
After dominance from the Blues in territory and possession, it finally told as Fabregas found a ball over the top of the City defence to find Hazard who looped it into Costa who headed in to make it 1-0 in the 35th minute.
But just 2 minutes later City equalised against the run of play after good build up play, Iheanacho found space in the Chelsea box and Azpilicueta’s attempted clearance rebounded off Faupala for it to go in the back of the net to make it 1-1.
With the game in full flow now the Blues had another golden opportunity after more brilliant build up play with Fabregas at the heart of it Pedro found space but was stopped by a fantastic save from Caballero.
The Blues will be hoping for more of the same in second half but will need to take their chances in order to win this cup tie.
