Chelsea take on Paris Saint Germain in their eagerly awaited Champions League tie at Stamford Bridge. The Blues are looking to overturn the 2-1 deficit after the first leg in Paris.
After an even start to the game the first half chance came to Chelsea as Diego Costa received the ball on the edge of the box and managed to shift it on to his left foot, but his shot was palmed away by Trapp in the PSG goal.
But PSG soon took control of the game and were able to get in behind Chelsea. With a ball over the top Ibrahimovic managed to lose his marker Cahill and had far too much time to pick out Rabiot at the back post to tap into an empty Chelsea net to make it 1-0 to the French Champions.
Chelsea then managed to wrestle back the initiative, putting pressure on the all Brazilian PSG back four and giving them no time. And after a brilliant tackle high up the pitch from Pedro which found Willian in some space to play in Diego Costa who turned Silva and managed to stroke the ball past Trapp with his left foot and level up the score to 1-1 on the night.
The Blues now looking to press a nervy looking PSG high up the pitch and winning the ball back in strong positions. As one challenge found Hazard in space as he tries to bend one in to the far corner but it was a comfortable stop in the end for the German keeper Trapp.
And on the verge of half time Costa found more space on the edge of the box and after his driving run and low shot was parried by Trapp, Pedro was inches away from touching in the rebound only for Silva to clear it away for a corner.
In to the second half and Chelsea keep with their high pressing game. Putting the French side under pressure high up the pitch, and great pace down the left from Willian making a driving run all the way to the byline and manages to pick out Costa, but his shot is brilliantly blocked by David Luiz.
But on the hour mark Chelsea’s star man on the night Diego Costa pulled up with what looked like a hamstring injury and had to be bought off for 20 year-old Bertrand Traore.
And just five minutes later the Blues had their best chance to draw the tie level. Willian shifted the ball on to his right foot, beating two men and drives it low at goal only to have his strike parried away and in to the path of Eden Hazard but a good double save from Trapp keeps the Parisian’s ahead on aggregate.
The telling blow was then given by PSG just a few minutes later, a ball out wide to the left found Di Maria in space, as he drives the ball across goal to find Zlatan Ibrahimovic in space to tap the ball home and effectively kill the tie. Chelsea now need to score four goals on the night to progress.
With just 15 minutes to play there was more bad news for Chelsea as the lacklustre Eden Hazard was taken off injured to be replaced by Oscar. With very little left to play for the game petered out and finished 3-2 on aggregate to PSG.
Chelsea now out of the Champions League and only have the FA Cup to play for In which they take on Everton on Saturday.
