Chelsea must invest to compete with the big clubs

Chelsea are riddled with injuries in the defensive department at the moment and the loss to PSG last night underlined the importance of depth at the back.

John Terry and Kurt Zouma are both out injured forcing Ivanovic to stay in the centre, Baba Rahman has under-performed and Brazilian winger Kenedy had to make up the left back position, unsurprisingly it was Kenedy who was at fault for PSG‘s opening goal. He did well going forward but was missing some times which left space for PSG to exploit.

Chelsea do have other defenders at their disposal but Michael Hector and Papy Djilobodji are both out on loan and young American Matt Miazga didn’t make the squad.

The squad as a whole, only 4 senior players featured last night out of the 9 signings Chelsea have made in the last 3 windows. Alexandre Pato, who Chelsea signed on loan 2 months ago, didn’t even make the bench.

It’s clear that Chelsea need to assess their current situation and bring in some quality to help them reach the levels they reached last season when they won the Premier League.
