Chelsea are ready to beat Arsenal to the signing of Napoli’s Faouzi Gholam as they continue their search to replace left-back Filipe Luis.
Reports in England are today suggesting that Chelsea will indeed beat their London rivals to Gholam’s signature, and that Napoli are already planning for life without him. New Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri is quoted as saying:
“We are going to really struggle if Ghoulam leaves now. I have no replacement for him, especially as Strinic is yet to recover from injury.
“We need his services as we don’t have enough back-up solutions. Ghoulam has a huge potential, he has plenty of room for improvement, especially defensively. I will be very disappointed if he leaves us.”
Chelsea have thus far been left frustrated in their pursuit of another defender having placed two bids in for Everton’s John Stones, both of which have been rejected. Jose Mourinho has spoken recently of his desire to sign a new defender. If Chelsea do buy Ghoulam then it will be considered yet another victory for Mourinho over rival Arsene Wenger.
