Chelsea will beat Manchester City and Arsenal for Portugal international Nelson Semado, according to sources in Portugal.
ChelseaNews24 reported yesterday that Chelsea were interested in the Benfica right-back, and it now appears they are in pole position to sign him ahead of their Premiership rivals.
Chelsea are in the market for a right-back due to their terrible defensive showing this season, as well as the imminent departure of Branislav Ivanovic in the summer in whom Inter Milan are very interested. Ivanovic’s form this season has not been good with the exception of an improved showing against Spurs on Sunday.
Chelsea have for some time seen this summer as the time the Serb will leave Stamford Bridge- he is out of contract at the end of this season and not likely to be offered a new one- and think Semado is the long term replacement in that position.
The Premiership champions may well bring forward their attempts to sign the 22-year-old to January as they now find themselves in a desperate fight for the fourth and final Champions League place. Reports in Semado’s home country suggest they will get their man for £20 million.
