Cesc Fabregas might of scored one of the most important goals in Chelsea season yesterday, as his winner gave the team a vital three points after they beat QPR 0-1.
In what was a tough derby clash at Loftus Road, Fabregas won the game with Chelsea’s only shot on target just five minutes from the end. The timing was very important, as he admits speaking to Chelsea TV after the game was over:
“It was a fantastic time to score. The win was vital. We are playing for the most important trophy of the season and we are up there since the first day so we have to continue that,” said the 27-year old.
“We know that some teams are putting pressure on from behind and we want to be solid, win out the games and this shows the character of this team.”
“It was very difficult to play this game with wind, the pitch was very dry, and it was not the circumstances we want to play football. That obviously is a positive advantage for QPR but we still showed great mentality and we never gave up,” he said.
Even in the difficult moments we coped very well with the game and Didier Drogba played a big part because he held onto the ball very well up front and that gave us life through the game.”
The win reinstates Chelsea’s seven point lead at the top of the table, with Fabregas silencing those who were criticising him for a recent slump in form.
