Five Chelsea youngsters started as England’s U21 came back from behind to beat Switzerland 3-1.
Nathaniel Chalobah, Lewis Baker, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Dominic Solanke all started in Brighton, with John Swift also starting in what was his U21 debut.
Ola Aina was an unused substitute as the Young Three Lions, who are managed by Gareth Southgate and whom Chelsea’s Steve Holland is assistant manager of, moved three points clear at the top of their groups after four games.
Switzerland opened the scoring just beofre half time on the south coast, but the introduction of Sunderland’s Duncan Watmore, who came on for Loftus-Cheek, changed the game.
The Black Cats winger won a penalty with 10 minutes to go, which Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse converted, then scored the second before setting up Arsenal’s Chuka Akpom for a late third to seal victory.
Solanke, who made his debut for the U21’s only last week, was withdrawn with four minutes to go; Chalobah, Baker and the lively Swift completed the full game.
