During yesterday’s fiery FA Cup clash between Everton and Chelsea, in which Everton won 2-0, Diego Costa saw red. In the 84th minute, Everton midfielder Gareth Barry fouled Costa and the Chelsea striker angrily retaliated. He pushed his head into Barry‘s and then Spanish forward appeared to bite him on his neck.
After the game Diego Costa apologised for the incident and says he regrets acting like he did, he also claimed to have not bitten the England international.
Gareth Barry has today backed Diego Costa‘s claims. Barry wrote on the fanzai app that he wasn’t bitten by Costa.
“Seen a lot of talk about the incident involving me and Diego Costa in the game last night.
“For the record, Diego did not bite me.”
It seems that Barry‘s statement would erase the possibility of Costa facing a biting charge from the FA but it is believed that they are waiting on the report from referee Michael Oliver before making any final judgements.
