Chelsea meet Manchester United at Stamford Bridge as they look to continue their unbeaten run under interim boss Guus Hiddink.
Chelsea started with the same team that drew 0-0 at Vicarage Road on Wednesday as they handed Willian his 100th start for the team. The Blues began the game very slowly, with United dominating over 70% of possession and all in Chelsea territory within the first 10 minutes of the match.
And in the 18th minute Courtois was called in to action to make a brilliant save from Anthony Martial. As the Frenchman cut inside Ivanovic and attempted to bend the ball into the far corner only for Courtois to make an acrobatic stop.
It took until the half hour mark for Chelsea to create a real goal scoring chance as Oscar played Diego Costa in behind the Manchester United defence for him to drive the ball just wide of David De Gea’s far post. Just a few minutes later, some brilliant play from Willian to beat United left-back Borthwick-Jackson and fire across goal and Oscar was a whisker away from making it 1-0 to the Blues but the Brazillian couldn’t quite connect.
Just before half-time, Chelsea have a strong penalty claim turned down as John Terry made his way forward, and more brilliant build up play from Willian, the ball found its way to the Chelsea captain in the penalty area only to have his shot blocked by what looked to be Daley Blind’s arm. But referee Michael Oliver adjudged the ball to have come off of Blind’s chest.
After a slow start to the half Chelsea managed to grow in the game and create some good chances. Last seasons player of the year Eden Hazard should be turned to at some point in the second half and that could make all the difference.
