Marc Wilmots, the manager of the Belgian national team, has announced that Eden Hazard is set to captain Belgium in their next two matches.
Hazard had been promoted to the vice-captain, but due to Vincent Kompany’s injury he will be handed the captain`s armband for the friendly against France on June 7th and Wales on June 12th in what is considered a crucial European qualifier.
But despite Kompany’s injury, Wilmots had no hesitation in giving the Chelsea playmaker the captaincy.
“Eden himself has changed enormously. It’s a choice. He already knew I was not going to wait until the game against France to tell you [about his promotion to Belgium’s vice-captaincy].”
Hazard has made 56 appearances for the national team, which has now been ranked second in the world in the FIFA rankings. He has scored seven goals.
