John Terry’s last programme notes as a Chelsea player?

Chelsea club captain John Terry could have had his final words today published in the match programme when they take on Leicester City at Stamford Bridge.

Terry takes time out to congratulate Leicester City on their title triumph and then talks emotionally about his time with Chelsea over the years and how much the supporting fans mean to him.

“I want to congratulate Leicester on their title, especially Claudio, as our former manager + Huthy & Schwarz, as ex-team-mates. From my point of view, as a Chelsea player, if anyone else was going to win it, I’d have wanted Leicester to win it.

“Leicester have been the best side this year, now we have to come back strong next season & perform a lot better than we have done. For a club like this, and a group of players of our ability, this season’s not been acceptable. We want to end on a positive note.

“I want to thank Guus ahead of his last game in charge – he has been unbelievable for me. He has helped me a lot this year. Not only as a manager but as a father-figure too. Guus’ door has always been open and you never forget that stuff as a player.

“What Guus achieved in his last spell here and what he has done for the players this time has been phenomenal. All the players, and I think the fans as well, love Guus to bits because he cares about Chelsea.

“I also want to thank the staff, both at Cobham and Stamford Bridge, for all their hard work and everything they do for us.

“Now the supporters. This season you have cheered us through difficult times and you will always be there. Players will come and go. Managers will come and go. The fans will always be there, from the age of 14 I have seen the love you have for this football club. I have been in the stands with you and I am very fortunate to be where I am now; on the pitch, captain of this great football club.

“From the bottom of my heart, and on behalf of all the players, we thank you fans for everything, for backing us this season. And through the success we’ve had over the years. That’s where we want to get back to, together. We want to fight for titles again.

“We hope this year is just a blip that doesn’t reoccur soon. Come on the Chels!”
