Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has said that things had improved after he saw his side overcome struggling Aston Villa 2-0 at Stamford Bridge.
Diego Costa grabbed his third goal of the season in the first half in what was his first league game after his three match ban, with an own goal from Alan Hutton securing a confidence-boosting three points for the Blues.
The Portuguese said that today’s performance was strong, whilst also justifying his team selection:
“It was not a brilliant performance but it was a solid performance. Defensively we had great discipline and effort. ‘Today we were able to find the ingredient you need when you are not playing at your top level.
“I left out Hazard because we are conceding lots of goals. Willian and Pedro did amazing defensive work.
“It was just a tactical decision, hoping the team would be more solid.
“The way Diego [Costa] was working in the past two weeks, I knew clearly he would bring something positive for us.”
