Bayern withdraw from race to sign Griezmann

Chelsea’s bid to sign Antoinne Griezmann appears to have been given a boost after Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich pulled out of any bid to sign him.

Bayern, who were knocked out of the Champions League in the Semi-Final stage by Barcelona, are keen to bolster their front-line and were front-runners to sign the Atletico Madrid star but have balked at the £43 million release clause in the Frenchman’s contract.

Griezmann has been strongly linked with Chelsea for some time, and it now seems that Stamford Bridge is his most likely destination where he would link up with another former Atletico striker, Diego Costa, and possibly another in Radamel Falcao if reports are to be believed.

Bayern have also apparently rejected any interest they had in Manchester United attacker Angel di Maria. The Red Devils quoted the German giants £59.7 million, the same record breaking fee they gave Real Madrid for the Argentine’s services last summer. It is now believed in Germany that Bayern will focus their attention on Arsenal target Douglas Costa, currently at Shakhtar Donetsk.
