Chelsea are closing in on £43.5m-rated Atletico Madrid attacker Antoine Griezmann.
The Madrid attacker has been in stunning form this season, scoring 22 goals in 36 appearances in La Liga this campaign.
The goals have filled the hole left by Diego Costa and David Villa, but has equally attracted attention from a range of clubs, Chelsea included.
According to The Mirror, the Blues are reportedly closing in on a summer deal to bring the Frenchman to Stamford Bridge.
Atletico are keen on renegotiating the 24-year-old’s deal, including a much bigger release clause, as they are reportedly unwilling to let one of their key players leave the Vincente Calderon after just one season.
But Griezmann is reportedly keen on a move to the Premier League. The chances of this happening were boosted when he took on Jorde Mendes in an advisory capacity – the Portuguese agent has an excellent relationship with Chelsea, with Jose Mourinho one of his clients.
Griezmann joined Atletico from Real Sociedad for £24m following several eye-catching performances at the 2014 World Cup for France.
Should he leave, he will be part of a continuing transfer relationship between Chelsea and Athletico – Costa and Filipe Luis left Spain for the Blues last summer, with current Chelsea keeper Thibaut Courtois spending three seasons on loan at the Spanish side.
