After months of speculation, Chelsea have confirmed the transfer of Asmir Begovic from Stoke City.
Begovic was also linked to Manchester United, however a transfer to Stamford Bridge had been on the cards for weeks. The move was all but confirmed when Stoke acquired Chelsea’s Marco van Ginkel on loan.
The 28 year old declared that he was “very happy” to be joining his new club. In an interview with the official Chelsea website, Begovic stated: “I feel like I can develop here and be an important part of this team.”
Begovic went to Chelsea for a reported fee of £8million – a reasonable valuation for a goalkeeper of his stature, both physically and in terms of experience.
With the 2015/16 season underway in less than a month, Premier League fans will be intrigued to see how Begovic plays for the champions.
