Miranda is on Chelsea's transfer radar

Chelsea are interested in Athletico Madrid full-back Miranda, according to reports in the Daily Mirror.

The Brazilian has one year left on his current contract and reportedly sees an opportunity to move to Chelsea as his last chance to earning a transfer to a big European club.

The 30-year old is yet to sign a new deal with the reigning La Liga Champions, so could be available at a cut-price fee. Chelsea’s technical director, Michael Emenalo, was reportedly scouting the defender at Athletico’s 2-2 draw with Malaga last weekend.

Chelsea have good transfer history with the Madrid side – they signed both Diego Costa and Filipe Luis from the club last summer. Blues keeper Thibaut Courtois also spent three seasons on loan in Spain.

However, with the London side already having Luis and Cesar Azpilicueta as left-back options, Chelsea fans are divided as to whether the move would be beneficial. In a poll conducted by the Mirror, 51% of fans said that the signing WOULD be a good move. 49% disagreed.

Miranda signed for Athletico in 2011 from Brazilian club Sao Paulo, for a fee of around £5.7 million. Before that, he played in France for FC Sochaux. He has made 171 appearances for the Spanish side in all competitions, 30 of which coming this season. He has 13 goals for the club in total (scoring three this season). He also has 15 caps for the Brazilian national side.
