According to the London Evening Standard, Chelsea are keen on a move for Atletico Madrid midfielder Koke this summer, offering back Filipe Luis less than a year after his arrival at Stamford Bridge.
Jose Mourinho is an admirer of the Spain international, despite he signed a new five-year deal at the Vicente Calderon just 10 months ago.
Koke’s recent contract extension included a mighty £48million release clause. However, this is unlikely to prevent Chelsea from making their interest official during the summer window.
While Atletico were looking to defend last season’s title – a feat that now seems somewhat unattainable – Koke impressed with his scintillating form. Playing often as a left-winger, he has collected 23 appearances, scoring two goals and assisting a nine.
He would probably have to compete with Eden Hazard for a place in the starting XI, yet his versatility enables him to play in almost any position across the midfield.
