Chelsea look set to miss out on signing Anderlecht striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, with Newcastle apparently looking to secure a £13 million deal, according to the Metro.
The Magpies have seemingly lost their interest in QPR striker Charlie Austin, and have turned their attention back to Mitrovic, with whom they were linked in January.
The Daily Mail reported last June that Chelsea could move for the 20-year old, who has also attracted attention from Tottenham, Porto and Roma.
However, with neither Porto or Roma willing to pay Anderlecht’s asking price of £13 million, and Chelsea having recently secured a loan deal for Radamel Falcao, it seems the way is clear for Newcastle to sign Mitrovic.
According to Belgian website SudInfo, Newcastle are not only willing to pay the £13m asking price but are also a more enticing sporting project to Mitrovic with new boss Steve McClaren in charge.
Mitrovic has been in potent form recently, scoring 23 goals last season. He has scored 43 in 89 appearances for Anderlecht. He moved there from Serbian side Partizan Belgrade in 2013 for a reported £3.5 million.
