Newcastle are leading the race to sign Chelsea wonderkid Tammy Abraham, after the youngster impressed in his loan spell to Bristol City in the past campaign, where he scored 26 goals in all competitions.
Chelsea were planning to promote Abraham into their first team squad this season, but Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez’s close relationship with the Blues’ technical director Michael Emenalo has persuaded them to loan him to St James’ Park.
The Spanish manager even travelled to England’s training HQ St George’s Park on his wedding anniversary last week to convince Abraham that Newcastle was the right side for him.
Abraham was the subject of keen interest from a host of other clubs, including Brighton & Hove Albion and Leicester City.
The 19-year-old will join the Magpies in a season-long loan.
