Chelsea have been dealt the final blow in the Arda Turan saga after Barcelona boss Luis Enrique claimed that the Champions League winners will not be loaning out new signing Arda Tuan before he is eligible to play in January.
Barcelona beat several English clubs to the signing of the Turkey international, of whom Chelsea appeared the most prominent, and there were hopes that the Blues may get the former Atletico midfielder on loan until January.
Barcelona cannot use Turan due to a FIFA imposed transfer ban, despite still being able to sign him, and a short move to the Premiership appeared a good move as it would keep Turan fit before joining up with his new teammates next year. From Barcelona’s perspective it would also have been beneficial as none of the teams he could have joined would have played Barcelona in European competition until after Turan returned to the Camp Nou.
Those hopes have now been quashed by Barcelona manager Luis Enrique, who says that no such deal had been considered, and that it won’t be if it is put to them.
“He cannot play until January and that does not favour us, but I want him with us until then,” Enrique said.
“The loan of Arda Turan is not being contemplated, nor will it be contemplated.”
ChelseaNews24 reported that Turan was considering a move to the Premiership before he opted to join Barcelona.
