Everton manager Roberto Martinez has said that any of his best players will not be leaving the team during winter transfer window. And this means that the potential transfer of John Stones to Chelsea once again seems unreal.
The Blues have already tried several times to lure the young Englishman at Stamford Bridge but each time their offers were rejected by coach Martinez. And there is no indication that in January something can change about it.
“I’m not worried at all – our best players will not be leaving in January,”
“We’re not in a position where we have to make financial decisions and our focus is on being as strong as we can together and keeping the continuity.”
“From our point of view the window in January will be to see if there’s anything to help our squad. We don’t look on it as a window to be really involved whether that’s buying or selling, it’s more a matter of continuity. It’s about developing competition for places between the ones we already have.”
Everton coach also commented on the mood in the team after last week’s bombings in Paris:
”We all experienced the feelings surrounding the game with England and France which showed what the game of football can do – showing humanity in difficult circumstances,”
“This weekend will be exactly the same. It is the perfect way to show the game of football has a strong role in bringing humanity together.”
