World News: Nigerian Star-Skipper John Obi Mikel
Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is giving JON OBI MIKEL a ‘raw deal’ this season say fans online a Mirror Sport poll last month and since then he (Mikel) is still is not featuring in games this season. After captaining the Nigerian International team with a vital goal to take them into the semi-finals of the summer Olympics this year, 60% of the online poll thinks so. The Mirror Sport Poll can be found here on: http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/nigeria-boss-blasts-antonio-conte-9242096
Nigeria Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr is quoted by saying: “There is a reason why Mikel is not playing for Chelsea right now and that reason is because he played for Nigeria at the Olympics”. Rohr went on to say that: ‘He (Mikel) was punished for that’ and added further by saying: “I cannot punish a player who loves his country and shows that he loves the Green jersey. I am not happy with what is happening to Mikel at his club because he is my captain.
“I spoke about this with Mikel and the club’s technical director [Michael Emenalo]. Mikel is training very well and he plays games in training with the big players at Chelsea.
The Nigerian 29-year old, who at present may seem to be out casted from the team unlike his fellow Nigerian Chelsea team mate, Victor Moses has commented by acknowledging that for the first time in his career this is happening to him.
Conte manager of the blues has not said he is totally ruling out Mikel in the team despite rumours of Mikel heading out in the January window. He has said that Mikel has been ‘struggling with injuries’ even though sources close to the Chelsea Midfielder claim ‘Mikel is not injured and is concerned’. Also All Nigeria Soccer was told by a top source that apparently ‘Mikel is not injured’ and is ‘bothered about why he is not being played’.
Mikel has options reports say and it is not just the fact that teams abroad are interested but also his former blues manager, Jose Mourinho. Reports also suggest that Mikel is studying these options and will make a decision in this month of December. If that be the case, Christmas may come on time with a star-midfielder as a precious gift. Mikel who can play as a midfielder as well as an attacking midfielder who can potentially score goals like he does for his country is a Chelsea legend in the making. He has played 374 times for the blues across 11 seasons and featured in the second part of last season under short-term manager, Guus Hiddink.
80% of fans online have made their voices clear in a Metro Sport Poll asking: ‘Should Obi Mikel leave Chelsea?’by answering ‘Yes’ while 19% voted: ‘No’ that ‘he can still do a job’. With rumours of different interests in JOHN OBI MIKEL including Marseille and Manchester United, can he still do a job at Chelsea in this 2016/17 season despite not being given a start? We will have to wait and see. The Chelsea midfielder after winning a bronze medal at the Olympics in the summer has been said to be training well despite injury struggles and so he still will be a great asset to Chelsea and any team he plays for still building off the Nigerian’s Olympic confidence and hard-earned success.
