Chelsea will make every effort to sign PSG defender Marquinhos in the January transfer window in an attempt to bolster their porous defence, according to reports in England and France.
Chelsea’s appalling defending could well be put to down to their futile attempts to sign Everton’s John Stones in the summer. The Premiership champions did, as it happens, have a bid for Marquinhos turned down shortly before the window shut when it was clear Everton were not going to sell Stones at any price.
That bid was rejected but Chelsea will go back in for the Brazil defender in January. The Blues think he could be a long term replacement for John Terry and could form a good defensive partnership with Kurt Zouma.
While they have not given up on Stones, Chelsea now consider the 21-year-old Marquinhos to be the more realistic option. ChelseaNews24 reported last month that former Chelsea and PSG defender Alex had advised Marquinhos to leave the French capital.
