Chelsea youngster Nathan Ake has moved to Championship side Reading on loan.
The Netherlands U21 international moves to the Royals on an initial one month loan, despite signing a five-year contract with Chelsea last season. However, the versatile 20-year old has made just four appearances under Jose Mourinho this season.
Ake is cup-tied for Reading’s upcoming FA Cup semi-final against Arsenal, but he will prove key for the Berkshire side as they are just nine points above the Championship relegation zone with eight games remaining.
Former Chelsea coach Steve Clarke, who now manages Reading, was pleased about the loan signing: “I’m delighted to add a player of Nathan’s quality to our first team squad at this important time of the season. He has been a fixture in Chelsea’s first team squad this season and we are grateful that Chelsea have allowed him to join us here at Reading to get some competitive minutes on the pitch.”
“He is a very talented player who I have been aware of for some time and I look forward to working with Nathan in the coming weeks.”
