Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic was sent off as Serbia lost 1-2 to Portugal in a fiery encounter in Belgrade.
In the closing stages of the match, both Matic and Manchester City defender Aleksandar Kolarov were sent off for lashing out at their opponents in a heated game.
27-year old Matic, who was the Serbian captain, seemed to aim an elbow at Portuguese midfielder Andre Andre, before seeming to angrily react to the Porto midfielder’s reaction as tempers flared.
The defeat sees Serbia finish their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign in a disappointing fourth place, with just four points.
An early goal from Fenerbache’s Nani put the visitors into the lead after he swept in a rebound, before Zoran Tosic equalised just after the hour mark with a thumping effort.
However, a stunning strike from substitute Joao Moutinho was enough to seal the win, before both Matic and Kolarov received their marching orders from Spanish referee David Fernandez Borbalan.
