Tomorrow night Chelsea take on Eintracht Frankfurt at Stamford Bridge in the Europa League‘s semifinal second leg.

After last week’s draw in Germany, the Blues are favourite to reach the final, but speaking during his pre-game press conference, Chelsea’s manager Maurizio Sarri warns his team they have to forget the first leg’s result: “We have to play to win, without managing the results. That’s too dangerous (to do). It’s not easy because we play a very dangerous team, as we saw in the first leg”. Sarri explained. “They are very dynamic and aggressive in the defensive phase, and dangerous in the offensive phase especially when they find spaces on the counter-attack. So it’s a dangerous match.”

Chelsea have already qualified for the next Champions League, now the Europa League can allow the Blues to reach their second target for this season: “We reached the target of the club. And so we are really very happy with this”. Sarri went on. “Now we have to play in another competition and the target is to reach the final – the first target – and the final target will be to win the competition. Our feeling is that we deserve to win a trophy, so it’s a very important match, of course.”

Finally, Sarri gives an injury-update, revealing N’Golo Kante will be back only if Chelsea will reach the final: “Kante had a problem with his hamstring, not really a very serious one but he needs to rest for a couple of weeks. So we can try to recover him only in case we reach the final.”

Loftus Cheek

After yesterday evening draw vs Burnley at Stamford Bridge, Ruben Loftus-Cheek reveals how Blues’ players are frustrated by this result.

It feels like a loss in a way because we could have got three points and made a massive jump in the league, but in a way it is a point gained as well because the other teams did not get points at the weekend,” Loftus-Cheek told Chelsea official website. “Burnley did well set-piece wise but we spoke about that in the build-up to the game, so it was disappointing to concede from two set-pieces. It was frustrating because they time-wasted really well but we have to take it and move on. There were some emotions flying at the end because of what was on the line in the game, so I can understand why a lot of players and staff were frustrated, it is why we love football, you get these emotions flying but like I say, move on.”

Despite the draw, Chelsea can still hope to finish their Premier League in one of the top four spots and qualify for the next Champions League. “I don’t think we are in a bad position but it is just down to us to produce our best football in the run-in to the end of the season”. Loftus-Cheek went on. “These games coming up are massive and we need to be at our best. The focus has to be really sharp and we have to be really on it because this is where it really matters.”

Tomorrow Chelsea will start their Fa Cup campaign facing Nottingham Forest at Stamford Bridge.

Maurizio Sarri‘s assistant coach Gianfranco Zola explained the game will be another step in the process of improving as a team: “For this club, and also for us [this squad and staff], all competitions are important.” Zola told Chelsea official website. “We are trying to establish ourselves and we respect this competition very much so we are going to try to do well”.

Chelsea was held to a goalless draw by Southampton on Wednesday night and now Zola is aware tomorrow’s game can be similar to the Premier League‘s one.  “Nowadays the teams come to Stamford Bridge and 90 per cent of the time they sit back in the last 40 metres, and bear in mind with that task it is not easy for anybody. In the past Barcelona had that problem, Bayern Munich, Man City, Liverpool, everybody suffers when there are no spaces up there”. the Blues assistant coach explained. “This is something we need to get used to, this is the big issue we have – for the amount of time we have the ball we do not create a lot of goal opportunities but we know this is part of the process. We are not a perfect team yet. We are going to sort it, I am sure. We have intelligent, quality players up front and the players are going to get used to it. They just need to adjust to the task.”

Chelsea‘s manager Maurizio Sarri was disappointed after his side’s draw tonight vs Southampton at Stamford Bridge.

We played very good for 80 metres of the pitch, then in trouble for the last 20 metres. It is not easy to create a lot of goal opportunities in this kind of match. It was not easy. If you can get the first goal you can create opportunities”. the Italian explained. “We have to solve the problem of the last 15-20 metres. In the last matches we have been in full control. For us it is not easy to score the first goal. We have to solve this problem”.

Maybe a solution can come from the January tranfer window, but Sarri claimed it’s the board who will decide to sign or not another striker: “I don’t know, I am not in control of the market. I have to think about the pitch, improving my team and the offensive phase”. Sarri underlined. “We are good to build up the action, we have to improve in the last 20 metres. The club know my position, it is up to the board”.

Tonight score could have been different, but, in the most controversial moment of the game the referee disallowed Alvaro Morata‘s goal: “It was too far from the bench to see it clear”. Sarri admitted. “I saw the two goals by Giroud in the last match, I don’t know if he was offside in that match, it was difficult. I have no idea about this goal”.

After tonight’s win vs Bournemouth, Maurizio Sarri‘s assistant manager Gianfranco Zola commented on the Carabao Cup‘s draw.

The Blues will face Tottenham in the semifinals and so they have the chance to “revenge” their loss in the Premier League game.

It could have been better. But it is the semi-final. We are happy. Spurs gave us a footballing lesson but it will be a different type of game”. Zola said about the draw. “There are a lot of proud players and they want to play this game and show that we were not the ones that played that game. Too many players under played and were hurt. We are pleased that we will play them and we can’t wait”.

Chelsea gained their place in the semifinals thanks to the win vs Bournemouth as Eden Hazard scored a late winning goal:  “The difference was the changes that we made. Of course we have a lot of games and players like Eden we need to keep fit. Even in 20 minutes he can make a big difference.” Zola admitted. “He is certainly one of the players that has given this club a lot of satisfaction. Hopefully he will stay with us and get even bigger. I hope he achieves great things for us in the future”.

Eden Hazard scored the winning goal, but it was Ruben Loftus-Cheek the Blues best player tonight at Stamford Bridge:  “I was impressed with him. He has done well as a wide player, but he showed a lot of sacrifice as a midfielder”. Zola explained. “He was getting tired but was disciplined. He is gone far away from the beginning of the season. He is a good boy and works very hard”.
