Antonio Conte was clearly upset after his side was humiliated by Watford with a 4-1 defeat last night.

“I have great disappointment,’ Conte said after the game.

“Our performance was very poor. We started very badly, without personality. We played with fear.

“We are not used to playing this type of football. We can lose, but always try to play football and try to be positive. Instead we started very badly. Then the double yellow card didn’t change things, but the situation became serious. Then there was the penalty, and when you go 1-0 down with 10 men it’s very difficult to come back.

“In the second half I saw great will and great desire, but I saw a lot of confusion. We were able to equalise, and in that moment we had to do better to manage the situation and understand the moment. A great team must do this. Instead in 10 minutes we conceded three goals. In this case, it’s right for everyone to take responsibility, me and the players.”

The Chelsea manager insisted his players should have shown more personality:

“To play football for a great club, it means you must have personality. It’s simple to play when you have confidence. In this type of moment, you can see who plays with personality and risks something. In this moment you have to show you have personality.

“We have to try to work, but sometimes work is not enough to change the situation. I will try to continue to work, and to improve different aspects of my players, but our performance was very poor and for sure I have to take responsibility, because maybe I made the wrong decision for the starting XI.”

Asked if he was worried to be sacked after the second humiliation in a row in Premier League with a “smaller”side, Conte said:

“I’m not worried about my job. I work every day and I give 120 per cent. If this is enough, it’s okay. Otherwise the club can take a different decision. Every press conference I am asked if I’m worried. I’m not worried. Tomorrow is another day. I can be the Chelsea coach, or not. What’s the problem? My soul is clear.”

The manager also insisted he sees his players giving everything as well:

“Do you think a club can decide to sack a coach if there is not the support of the players? Only here you think this. You think the players have this power? This is wrong.

“When I was a player, I was captain of Juventus, I never, never spoke about a coach with my club. And if the club asked me, this is not my problem.

“I repeat: my task is to work with these players. I have honest players who show me every day great commitment and great behaviour. The question is for you to find something wrong or create a problem with the club, and then the players. I do my job; I do my work. If this is enough, it’s okay, otherwise I go home and I have zero problem to sleep well.”

Conte admitted this is probably the hardest time since he’s arrived at Chelsea:

“For sure this is a difficult moment. If we want to find excuses, we can find everything: tiredness, injuries, but this is not my way to face the situation and solve the problem.

“The problem you have to solve through work. The winner finds a solution; the loser finds an excuse. In my life I like to be a winner, and I am a winner.”

Chelsea are really concerned for N’Golo Kantè fitness after the French midfielder picked up a hamstring injury while away on international duty with France.

Kante was forced off in the 34th minute of France’s victory over Bulgaria on Saturday night and has now been assessed by Blues’ medical department.

With early predictions putting his absence at two to three weeks, Kante will surely miss next Saturday’s Premier League clash against Crystal Palace.

The Blues are yet to confirm his exact injury or put an official timescale on how long he will miss.

However, Kante’s injury is thought to be worse than that of team-mate Alvaro Morata, who limped off during Manchester City game a couple of weeks ago but is working to try to come back in the Champions League clash against AS Roma next week.

The fear of Chelsea is that Kante, a key-man for Conte’s team, could miss all the six matches scheduled for October and could come back only in November, on time for Manchester United on the 5th or after another international break due for mid-month.

Ex Chelsea striker Fernando Torres scared everyone witnessing Deportivo La Coruña v Atletico Madrid when he fainted onto the pitch after a tremendous clash with Depor player Bergantiños.

His team-mates rushed just after the incident to pull his tongue out of his throat to avoid asphyxiation, only moments before Atleti’s medical staff intervened to understand what was going on.

The ex Blues forward was still unconscious when he was carried to the closest La Coruña hospital to undergo further medical tests and re-gained his senses while there.

A first official statement from Atletico stated that he suffered concussion and a whiplash injury and will be supervised for at least 24 hours at the hospital.

Jason Cundy has claimed he is worried about what Tottenham Hotspur could do to Chelsea; Spurs, who are chasing the Premier League title, are due to visit the Blues on Monday 2nd May.

The former Chelsea defender told Chelsea TV he is concerned about a defeat: I fear for us, if I’m honest. Anyway I think the fact it is a night kick off will add something to it.”

At Stamford Bridge, Chelsea enjoy a good record against Spurs, not having lost at the ground to Tottenham since before the year 2000.

Chelsea striker Diego Costa fears that the move of Petr Cech to Arsenal can turn the Gunners in serious title contenders:

“Petr is a legendary player who has made a huge impact in world football.

“We think a lot of him. I certainly do, as a player and as a person.

“Last season we had two top keepers. It’s important to have a keeper who you know is capable of pulling off a wonder save in the event of a defensive mistake.

“That’s the difference when you have a top-level keeper. It gives you that extra bit of confidence.

“Now over the summer they have strengthened well. We know that they will be fighting hard to win this trophy as well as the league title. They have a good enough side to be in with a shout”.
