Cesar Azpilicueta and Alvaro Morata both started for Spain, while Chelsea keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga came off the bench in the second half to replace Man United star David De Gea on Thursday night at the Millennium Stadium.

Spain defeated Wales 4-1 with goals from defenders Marc Bartra and Sergio Ramos and a brace from Dortmund’s Paco Alcacer.

Just few hours after Thibaut Courtois’ words on the differences between Chelsea and Real Madrid, the Belgian’s replacement at Stamford Bridge Kepa Arrizabalaga explained why this summer he chose to sign for the London club.

It’s a great club, that in the last few years has won the Champions League, the Europa League, the Premier League”, Kepa told Spanish sports paper As. “It’s a team with great players.”

Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta featured in the Blues’ opening game of Premier League 2018/19 against Huddersfield Town at John Smith’s Stadium last evening.

The Spaniard told BBC Sport: “Our new signings were very good. They are adapting very quickly to the team and being comfortable in the the team, and we have a very good squad.”

“It’s true when we created chances we were clinical. The goal just before half-time was massive going into the second-half. It meant we could control the game and we could have scored more goals in the end. In the first-half every ball and every cross was dangerous for them.”

Azpilicueta added: “We have been working really hard with him. He knows what he wants and our target was to start really well which we have done and now we must get ready for Arsenal.”

Chelsea will take on Arsenal next Saturday as Maurizio Sarri faces his first official game at Stamford Bridge.

Kepa Arrizabalaga has been unveiled as Chelsea‘s new goalkeeper earlier this afternoon at Stamford Bridge.

Will he be wearing the N°1 shirt? The 23-year-old, speaking at a press conference, told journalists: “First of all, hello. I am incredibly happy to be here It is a great challenge for me and a great step forward for my career. It is brave for the club to take me on. I don’t think about the price, just be myself and do the best I can for the club”.

“I came back from holiday on the 23rd and a few days into training I new the interest. There had been prior offers from Chelsea, but Athletic Bilbao don’t usually care about the interest. But I had known about the interest for a while”

“I think some players take more time, others less. Everyone is different. I hope I can adjust as soon as possible. The game is different, but I know other Spanish players in the Premier League and they have given me fantastic references about playing here”.

“This is an experience and all experiences all make you better. It is a great step forward for me and in my personal life. I knew some of the players of Chelsea because I have played with them in Spain and at the World Cup in Russia. They all told me what it is like and I have had excellent references from them. They encouraged me to make the move”.

“I don’t think there will be additional pressure, just the one I put on myself. I demand a lot from myself. I don’t really think about it, Chelsea have made a great bet on taking me in and I am really happy to be here. I will do everything to pay the trust they have put in me”.

“I think I will be able to adapt to Maurizio Sarri‘s style of football. His style and ideas are attractive to me, and I had references from Pepe Reina who said great things about him. It won’t be too difficult, I expect to achieve a great growth, personally and collective and hope to win many titles and when I look back if I can be proud”.

“When I signed a new contract with Athletic I was not scared about the clause, of course I was thinking about the contract. I agreed with it and I started to become popular and there was talk about me, which made me very proud. In January I was coming to the end of the contract. There were negotiations [with Real Madrid] but I thought at the time I was happy to stay. Now is a new stage for me and I am really happy for that”.

“I would say the market in general has grown up in price a lot in the last few years. It has to do with many things. I agree this is the way to value the goalkeepers. It is great to see fees for strikers, but why not also for goalkeepers?”

“The Golden Glove will be nothing more of the result from the season we will play. We have an exciting one, not only for me and we will go step by step”.

New Chelsea signing Kepa Arrizabalaga has joined the Blues on a world-record move from Athletic Bilbao, putting the pen to paper on a seven-year-deal with the Premier League side last night.

The Spaniard’s first interview as a Chelsea player was unveiled earlier this morning.

Kepa told the club’s official website: “It’s a very important decision for me, for my career, and also for my personal life,”

“So many things attracted me to the club, all the titles the club has won, the other players, the city, the English Premier League. It’s an accumulation of things, and I am very glad Chelsea has decided to trust me and to take me in as well.”

He added: “It has been a tough decision for me, for my personal life a very important choice. Everything attracted me to sign for Chelsea, all the titles, the players, the city the Premier League. I followed the championship since I was child. I like the way of the football here, how much they respect the game, the supporters, the speed of the league and all the players here. It will be great to be one of the players in that league”.

The 23-year-old also labelled both Iker Casillas and Daniel Aranzubia as his favorite goalkeepers.

About Chelsea players: “I know all the players, they are familiar but I know personally all the Spaniish players. I have spoken to various players before I came here and I had excellent references from Morata Azpilicueta and Pedro. There are important players like Kante, Hazard, World Cup champion Giroud, Chelsea are a squad full of fantastic players”.

“I don’t really like describing myself, I prefers let others do it for me. I would say I am a calm and settled goalkeeper who tries to convey his calmness to the team. It’s very important that the team feel they have behind a keeper that is feeling in total control”.

On newly-appointed manager Maurizio Sarri: “I am looking forward to start working with him, looking forward the first training session together tomorrow. I have heard great things and references about Sarri, I can’t wait to see that first hand. I think his style is not too different from the style used in the Spanish national team or in many other national teams. I believe my qualities will fit. I personally like his style of football: it’s aggressive, he likes to attack putting pressure on the opposition and I like that”.

“All clubs need to fight to win titles and what all players want is to win. So what I would like is to win more titles for the club. This is what I aspire to do. I would like to be remembered at this club when I leave years down the line as a goalkeeper that has helped the club win a lot of titles and gone down in history in that way.”

Kepa also sent a message to Chelsea fans: “I am looking forward and really excited to start playing for the club. We have a very exciting season ahead so let’s go for it. I ve come prepared: let’s see what we can achieve together”.
