Massive blow for Chelsea as Russian midfielder Aleksandr Golovin has today joined AS Monaco on a permanent move from CSKA Moscow.

An official statement on the club’s website read: “AS Monaco is very pleased to announce the signing of Aleksandr Golovin from CSKA Moscow for 5 years, until June 2023”.

Golovin said: “I am very happy to sign at AS Monaco. This is a new adventure for me that I approach with a lot of ambitions. I am now very much looking forward to meeting the staff and my new teammates and to get going.”

It is understood Chelsea were keeping tabs on the 22-year-old, who refused a move to Stamford Bridge to begin a new experience in the Ligue 1.

Aleksandr Golovin looks set to join Chelsea as his teammate and CSKA goalkeeper Chepchugov posted a picture on Instagram revealing the Russian midfielder is heading to Stamford Bridge.

The 22-year-old, who’s said to be keen on a Premier League move, has been targeted by AS Monaco earlier this week. Also Juventus are reportedly keeping tabs on Golovin, with Chelsea set to complete a £30m move.

This is the message, which was liked by Golovin himself:

Spain have still never beaten World Cup hosts since 1934’s defeat to Italy. Brazil had the upper hand Spain in 1950, as well as South Korea in 2002 and Russia last time out.

Sergej Ignashevich‘s own goal put Spain in front before Artem Dzyuba leveled the score just before the break. Gerard Piqué hit the ball with his hand inside the box and the Russian striker sent David De Gea the wrong way from the penalty spot.

Then Igor Akinfeev became the hero following some great saves in the extra-time as well as during the shootouts, when both Koke and Iago Aspas missed their penalties.

Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta did not came off the bench. Spain head-coach Fernando Hierro was allowed to make an extra sub in the extra-time but he brought on Rodrigo Moreno Machado for Real Madrid star Marco Asensio.

The Chelsea back-up goalkeeper was involved in Nizhny-Novgorod as Croatia destroyed Argentina last night at the World Cup.

Willy Caballero, following a positive performance in the first half, made a disastrous clearance which went badly and Ante Rebic was superb in scoring with a volley.

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric and Barcelona star Ivan Rakitic were absolutely stunning and their goals secured a 3-0 score.

Croatia are now top of the Group D with 6 points, while Iceland and Nigeria have a huge chance to claim the 2nd place courtesy of Argentina, who remain relegated with 1 point after 2 games.

Speaking about Caballero’s performance against Iceland, former Chelsea manager José Mourinho told Russia Today: “One chance, one goal, Caballero in goal or myself would be the same because I would save the same”.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has made CSKA star Aleksandr Gloving a target to bolster his squad ahead of next season.

It is understood also Juventus are keeping tabs on the attacking-midfielder, who’s been targeted by Barcelona and Arsenal too.

With Maurizio Sarri reportedly set to be appointed as new manager, the Russian starlet could become the first signing to revamp Chelsea’s midfield.

Golovin, who scored in the World Cup 2018 opener against Saudi Arabia, played the whole game against Egypt in St.Petersburg tonight.

Andreas Christensen was brave and solid in stopping Peru‘s attempts to score in World Cup opener with Denmark at Mordovia Arena in Saransk, Russia.

However, the centre-back limped off the pitch in some discomfort lately in the second half following a great performance.

Christensen could be a concern for the Danes as they will take on Australia (Thursday 21st June) and France (Tuesday 26th June) to complete Group C.

Chelsea star Cesar Azpilicueta was an unused sub in Spain 3-3 draw against Portugal last night, while both Olivier Giroud (who provided an assist) and N’Golo Kante featured in France win against Australia today.

Chelsea are more confident Eden Hazard could stay at Stamford Bridge following Zinedine Zidane’s departure from Real Madrid, as London Evening Standard revealed this morning.

It is understood the Frenchman was a huge admirer of the Belgian international, who’s currently traveling with the National Team ahead of World Cup 2018 in Russia.

And Chelsea board are expected to be keen on holding more negotiations with Eden Hazard over a potential contract extension that that increase his salary from £200,000-a-week to £300,000-a-week.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has been granted Israeli citizenship after delays in the renewal of his UK visa, which some view as part of a crackdown on wealthy Russians.

Abramovich, who is worth an estimated £8.6 billion ($11.4 billion), exercised his right under Israel’s Law of Return, which allows Jews from anywhere in the world to gain Israeli citizenship.

Incidentally, with his new citizenship, Abramovich has instantly become Israel’s richest person and perhaps he’ll find it easier to get back into the UK as an Israeli citizen.

Unlike the Russians, the Israelis do get a visa-free stay in the UK for up to six months straight, but it’s not clear if the decision on the Tier 1 investor visa that he needs is actually affected by the citizenship of the applicant.
