Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas played today in the Blues’ win over Perth Glory in their first pre-season friendly which marked also Maurizio Sarri‘s debut on the London club’s bench.
Fabregas himself recognised that many things have changed for the last two seasons under Antonio Conte: “You have to be ready for everything, it’s all about getting the rhythm. This was our first game after the FA Cup final, so nearly 9 weeks ago. We are getting there slowly, slowly. Of course it was a different style with Antonio”. Fabregas said. “For example we played with five at the back, now we have four defenders. It will be tight to adapt to what Maurizio wants from us. We’ve been practicing for two years with another system, but I think with intelligent players we will learn fast”.
Things are new also for Fabregas who will play in a different position: “My new position? the Spanish midfielder went on. “Not more far than usual. Yes, in the last two years I’ve been playing as a defensive midfielder, very deep in midfield. Of course this new position [attacking midfielder] is better for me, this is the position where I have played in all my career but I am ready to play in every position, wherever Sarri will put me. We have three places in midfield”.
